verty was onto something there...about it not being a chemical imbalance, but rather a life perspective.
Alot of research into the areas are done commercially with a bias toward making a profit. I mean sure, you can artificially induce happiness, quite easily with MDMA :D lol. But there are ways to feel naturally happy. Like if someone gave you 100$ youd be happy, but theres no artificial chemical in your brain balancing out the so called imbalance.
Personally I believe people dictate their own emotions, but on a subconcious level that they are unaware of. Its the connection between reailty and psychology, where if something beneficial happens to you, the reward centre of the brain (hippocampus) reacts by making it into a pleasant experience.
Since no one knows enough about the subconcious, no one can disprove my theory yet :D.

Glad to know you agree with him. I cant say I do though. I would be happy if I got $100, but never extremely happy. Happy to me mean's less depressed than usual.

FriedPiper, if you think $100 makes a person happy, I think you are very immature philosophically. Before you start hypothesizing, perhaps you should do some reading. Here are two items for you to read.

In this one, Epictetus tells us that happiness is in the mind.

In this one, Ayn Rand tells us that the love of money is the root of all evil.

so youre saying if someone gave you 100$, you wouldn't be the least bit happier for it? I think instead of reading, you should form your own opinions on philosophy...and give me all your money cause its not making you happy :P lol
The love of money is evil...but it is man himself that is the root of all evil.
I believe in life, you must pave the way to ensuring the maximum happiness of yourself, and those around you. Money is a small factor that comes into the equation, and alot of the time people sacrifice too much for money and the scales are tipped. i.e. "all work and no play makes jack a dull boy"
But i cant speak for everyone...there are people out there who are glad to step all over others for their love of money. I believe that is selfish, and weak-minded. To abandon ones moral judgement in search of material wealth shows weak character...
But what can we do? We are stuck in the middle of the system, surrounded by ignorant stereotypes who are but puppets to the machine which is economics. The strings are the media, the puppeteers are the corporations, the puppets are the masses.
The average puppet doesnt think high enough to question the moralities of the inequity of money, so he is blissfully unaware.
Who are we to break down all that he's known, take away from his happiness... I say let sleeping dogs lie...if their happy being puppets, let them be puppets.
I can honestly say the only asset I have ever taken pride in was my car stereo, and as if by a sign from god, it was taken away from me by a car-ripper. dam thieves...But i see now, it is not the head deck that makes the man...but rather the puppet master who creates the illusion that it does for his own love of money. Talk about a perpetual loop...greed is a very poor characteristic of mankind...Sorry for the long post...andfor its awkward placement in your poem thread kayty, lol.

verty wrote:These poems are far too morbid. I think poems should be uplifting.

poetry can not be "too" anything. It it what it is. It is usually an expression of what the writer is feeling. I do not find this poem to be morbid. I really like it katie.
