Torn meniscus..

Postby Manners73 » Sat Nov 23, 2019 7:29 pm

This is so painful that it keeps me awake.

Is it worth having surgery?

Has it been examined by a doctor? Get an evaluation.
If surgery is suggested, I would strongly consider getting it done. Have them write a referral if you need to move on to the next stage of treatment.

Poor sleep from discomfort can interfere with our performance and attitude 24/7. Past pain has kept me from breathing properly, standing and walking properly, which eventually made my back, hips and everything else hurt. If one doesn't have to live with pain, please get it repaired.

If there is any danger of stumbling, falling or further injury, it is time to try and do something about it.
Living with chronic pain is something that lessens the quality of life and keeps us angry, in despair and distracted from who we are meant to be.
Best of luck to you. :D

My doctor told me what it probably is and she sent me for an x-ray and then the pain seemed to stop so I didn't go for my results but the pains came back again.

I know I should go and see.

I have a pretty high pain threshold so I'm guilty of tending to wait and see if it goes away . That has never worked well for me .

All I end up doing is enduring more and more pain and discomfort until I can't stand it any more . Once I'm thoroughly miserable , then I get off my butt and go see a doctor who usually fixes me up in a far shorter time than I spent suffering .

Yeah I'm similar and I won't take painkillers either.

I will and that's part of the problem sometimes . It buys me time to ignore it some more .

I'll usually only take a store bought med for serious pain , not something like a headache or common injury . I think it's part of how I process pain . I know people who become quite distressed by the least amount of discomfort . I expect pain from an injury . It's the duration I'm paying attention to , not the intensity .

I'm OK with enduring pain as part of the healing process . I just need to have a good idea of how long that healing process should be . This probably goes back to an incident from when I was in my early twenties . I had severely sprained my right knee and it was swollen to nearly twice its size .( Public Service Announcement : Don't drink and rollerblade ) .

I was working a low-paying job and didn't have much spare cash but 5 days later the pain was still so bad that I could barley walk and I decided to go see a doctor . I was sent to a specialist clinic for x-rays . I was told " You have a very bad sprain . Put ice on it and take some ibuprofen . That will be $400 please . "

A week later , I was fine .

That kind of set the bar for me as far as when I'll go see a doctor . I still remember how mad I was about that .

That why I like the good old NHS.

I don't think I like the pain but it makes me feel alive. I'm the same with blood. I see it and I feel alive.

I wouldn't say I've got a high pain threshold because I do feel it really intensely but I like to endure it. I scare myself sometimes.
