I will and that's part of the problem sometimes . It buys me time to ignore it some more .
I'll usually only take a store bought med for serious pain , not something like a headache or common injury . I think it's part of how I process pain . I know people who become quite distressed by the least amount of discomfort . I expect pain from an injury . It's the duration I'm paying attention to , not the intensity .
I'm OK with enduring pain as part of the healing process . I just need to have a good idea of how long that healing process should be . This probably goes back to an incident from when I was in my early twenties . I had severely sprained my right knee and it was swollen to nearly twice its size .( Public Service Announcement : Don't drink and rollerblade ) .
I was working a low-paying job and didn't have much spare cash but 5 days later the pain was still so bad that I could barley walk and I decided to go see a doctor . I was sent to a specialist clinic for x-rays . I was told " You have a very bad sprain . Put ice on it and take some ibuprofen . That will be $400 please . "
A week later , I was fine .
That kind of set the bar for me as far as when I'll go see a doctor . I still remember how mad I was about that .
