I have a schizophrenic aunt, a bipolar father and everyone else has there problem. My mom is somewhat co dependent and I think I fell into this in my last relationship, I'm fairly certain it was with someone who is borderline.
I have two questions: Could my psychosis be due to codependency?
Next: Is it possible that codependency stress can bring out underlying mental disorders such as cyclothymia or manic depression? Can really dysfunctional relationships give rise to these disorders that already exist?

Surely dealing with or being around someone's symptoms of Bipolar disorder or even depression can affect one's mood/mental health over time.
Not to mention the genetic factor.
And I know children of alcoholics are more likely to marry an alcoholic and become one themselves than children of parents without a drinking problem. Im sure the same goes for most mental illnesses...
similar genes + similar environment = similar disorders
Dont look at it as a sentence... my father is an alcoholic and I am determined to not become one as well as battle depression (usually part of the drinking problem).
On second thought this might just be you looking into things too much.... knowing the symptoms, maybe you are expressing them simply because everyone else is?
Im not too big on labeling people with disorders but I find it very interesting that people can rub off on each other.
