Hi I'm new

Postby LazyOCD » Thu Sep 23, 2010 1:01 pm

New to Psychforums.com :) I am 31 and have 2 daughters ages 4 and 6. Having issues with my 4 year old with delayed speech and I am concerned she may have Sensory Processing Disorder and Auditory Processing Dysfunction and maybe mild Autism/Aspergers. Also Pica (eating nonfoods eg paper, paint chips, etc). In the last two weeks she's tried to eat tinfoil, paper 2x and cat biscuits. She has also eaten paint flakes, hair, lint, dirt, feces (thankfully only 1x), bugs, and her snot which is pretty normal for kids LOL plus the usual playdough.... oh and stones.

She's had her hearing tested about 4x now and they tell us it's fine. So we have been referred to our GP to discuss developent disorders/Autism/Aspergers etc

My 6 year old had her eyesight checked at the doctors recently and on the 4th is having a proper eye exam at the optometrist. Her eyesight seems bad. She is behind at school. I wear glasses and am short and long sighted.

Hi,

It has been a while since you have posted. my apologies for the lack of any response. However, please tell me how the appointment wit the GP went; and how the eye-exam for your 6-year-old went. I honestly have not ever heard of a child eating such things as yours does. It can understand how worrying it must be for you. There is only one other creature on Earth that I know eats the things that your daughter tries to eat, and it's certainly nowhere near being related to a human being.

please let me know that things are well for you.

Take care,
Kevin

 that made me laugh. Yeah it is weird/disturbing but not unheard of. Apparently it can be something kids with developmental delays do. It's also sometimes due to malnutrition which is definitely not the case LOL Our girl is big. Not overweight. Just big. Her older sister is 4 kg lighter!! She's also taller for her age, than her older sister was at that age. She's always been taller and heavier. She is bulky - wears size 5,6 and up in clothing (she's 4).
She hasn't eaten anything else unusual since I posted about this. So fingers crossed!

As for our 6 year old - she has had her eyesight test done and the Ophthalmologist says she appears to be long sighted so we are going back on the 3rd November. I have to put special drops in her eyes so the doctor can see the back of her eyes. I've been told once this is done they can tell me if she needs glasses or not. So I will update when I know. :)

Oh and don't worry! I understand how busy everyone is. I completely understand not getting many replies. We are all so busy!!! :)
It will be normal to not hear from me for a whole week maybe longer most of the time - I just don't have much time for the computer these days! I wish I had more time. I shouldn't even be on here now as it's 1am here! lol My backside is really sore lol and I am off to bed now!

Best wishes to all! :D

Thank you for getting back. I believe that the lack of replies was mostly due to the forum you have made your post in. This forum isn't very active at all, and perhaps should not really be here. Then again, there was no other suitable forum for the problems you have been talking about. i suppose that you could have tried the Asperger's Forum, which is actually one of our most active ones. I regard myself as having Asperger's, and certainly I am prone to picking up anything and eating it. Sometimes I pick things up from my carpet and eat it without even knowing what it is.
