Many of us here have deep problems around sexuality and in general I've found this board to be pretty supportive. If you're feeling up to it perhaps a little more detail as to the general nature of your issues would help.

If you haven't done anything illegal then there really isn't any reason to be paranoid over seeking help from a professional. In fact it's often the best answer. If nothing else it could be worth discussing some of your anxieties with your GP?

If you have been engaged in any form of illegal activity then my best advise would be firstly speak to t he police and then secondly seek professional help.

A number of us here, myself included, didn't seek out help before it was too late. You can search the post history of several of us here and read a few cautionary tales on how it's too late and far worse when the police come knocking and asking awkward questions for themselves.

Of course, I don't know what the exact nature of your problem is and am only giving general guidance based on this boards support community for people effected by paedophilia among other divergent sexual interests.

Whatever it is, let us know as much as your comfortable with and I'm sure someone here will be happy to offer some help.

Sorry, but I couldn't disagree more. Just how is turning yourself over to the police going to be therapeutic? Spending years in a prison cell is hardly therapeutic for anyone.

There are safe places one can go to talk about such things, but they may be difficult to find. Still, it is worth the effort to look.

Dave, I'm sending you a PM.

If you are involved in any kind of illegal activity you've got to expect the police to take an interest sooner or later. If you wait for them to knock on the door it will be far worse in the long run. If you truly want to change then seek help. I never said or implied the police themselves would be in any way therapeutic, but you're more likely to avoid years in prison by going to them now off your own back than waiting for them to come to you like most of us have. If you think your crimes are particularly serious and prison is likely no matter how you approach it, then of course get advise from a criminal solicitor first (in fact that might be worth doing it anyway). As with most things in life, ignoring it will only make matters worse. Going to the police first will only ever help reduce any possible prison sentences.

Besides we're assuming the OP's issues are in any way illegal - they may very well not be. Either way unless the OP chooses to divulge more detail we can only speculate.

Police can't do anything if they don't find any evidence. Use Truecrypt, nuff said.

This is wrong in so many ways! And this is coming from someone who used Truecrypt and is now paying the price.

Firstly, we shouldn't be promoting illegal activities here, we should be supporting each other in recognising these activities are wrong and getting the help we need to stop. Truecrypt is not the answer.

Secondly, the police have other ways of gathering evidence once you come under their radar. You have to be exceptionally careful and proficient in using a number of technologies in order to completely hide all possible methods of detection.

Thirdly, in the UK, it is a criminal offence with up to 5 years in prison if you refuse to give up any encryptions keys. So if you don't go to prison for downloading CP, you will go to prison for not allowing the police to decrypt your drive.

Having been arrested, I freely gave the encryption key to my Truecrypt volume in the hope that it counts in my favour when it comes to sentencing.

Well, to clarify, you should follow the law. But you should also use encryption, in order to protect your rights. Truecrypt also has a "hidden volume" feature in case you need to reveal a password to an adversary. Myself, I just have a terrible memory, I forget things all the time. I could never remember two passwords.
