Can pedophilia be just a phase?

my pedophilic thoughts have been coming and going for more than 6 months now. I now lately feel like they will stay even though I can control myself from fantasising about them now but they still pop up in my mind alot. When they do they are very intense. I ve had homosexual thoughts for years and acted on them and now with the pedophilia they are no more present. I went to a nudist beach with a friend and even though he was naked right next to me and had a big penis I didnt feel anything. A year ago when I saw a penis even from a distance or fantasised about it I immediatly got turned on. Do you think pedophilic interests can go away like that? Even after six months wich they say is the period rewuired to consider yourself a pedophile? When I used to see little girls I thought they were cute and beautiful but didnt think of them sexually, now I try not to look at them at all cause I see them as hot :(

If by phase you mean temporary then yes. ElKahn is an example of this. Pedophilic thoughts can be caused by emotional or psychological issues. If those issues are resolved then in time the thoughts might dissipate. For example, if these thoughts are caused by the excitement of taboo attractions then learning techniques to deal with that, or dealing with any issues that make you excited by taboo attractions, could potentially help 'cure' yourself of pedophilic thoughts. 'Potentially' and 'maybe' are the keywords though. We don't know the reason for these thoughts, a mental health professional may or may not be able to identify them, working through those issues may or may not be possible and if it is possible then it could take a considerable amount of time. ElKahn seems to have dealt with the issues causing his attractions either by accident or unintentionally but the issues and their severity would be different for everyone and a therapist or psychiatrist would be the best bet I believe. They may need to direct you to a more experienced person who could possibly specialise in this area. The issues may not be obvious or identifiable and the person may just focus on preventative techniques and not actually helping deal with 'curing' your attractions so just be aware that the process might be long and not what you're actually looking for in the end. Still I think it would be your best bet if your attractions are negatively impacting your life to a point where you need to deal with it.
