I've never seen that movie, but I think I've heard of it. I don't see why that couldn't be very artistic, too. What is a better topic for a movie than love, especially love you don't get to see or hear about, every day?

It was based on a true story. The boy in real life was an 11-year-old Dutch boy (they made him older for the film) who fell in love with a Canadian soldier. The soldier had to move on and never returned. The boy was harmed by the experience, but only because he remained in love with the soldier and pined for him well into adulthood.

OK, so, to me that sounds like a normal reaction to losing someone you love. So it could have happened when he was older or with someone the same age. So did it really "harm" him or did it just "affect" him the way you would expect it to affect him?
