I was reading the post from mattersonline in the fetish sub-forum and he describes a pretty strong focus on arousal by transformation from an early age. So I'm wondering why aren't paraphilias given the societal classification of being actual sexual orientations such as Heterosexual and Homosexual?
Could we ever see a day where when someone asks you what your sexuality is you would say "I'm a transformationist" or "I'm a necrophile" or will we always be considered freaks?

Oh, we won't always be considered freaks. I can guarentee you that. What counts as normal shifts a lot over time. The only real question is if any of us here will be around to see it.

Well, people are very hesitant to study paraphilias...which is probably what's holding us back. It's hard to have social change when we can't even open up any dialogue about it.

I doubt it will happen in my lifetime, but it'd sure be nice. I don't know though, maybe having technology like the internet will inspire social change at a faster rate.
