Hello from a Turkey in Goose-World.

Hello. I'm a turkey who, for some reason or another, was brought up amongst geese.

For a long time, I felt I had to be at least half goose. The goose world is all I've ever known, and naturally enough I've spent my whole life trying to do goose things, which has been very frustrating for the most part, but I've tried really hard. Geese can be real barstards sometimes, and I've always been frightened of them noticing my turkey-ness. This has made me try extra-hard to do goose things, but all too often I end up on the receiving end of a good pecking.

Now, I've recently admitted to myself what I've known all along, that I'm not half goose at all. I'm a whole turkey, and all these goose things just don't work for me. It's stupid of me to keep trying to be a goose, because I'm a turkey, and I'll never be able to change that. I'm about halfway through a turkey's life expectancy, and I wish I'd realised sooner that I just can't force myself to be a goose.

On one hand, it's a huge relief. Now that I'm sure of what I am and what I'm not, I no longer feel I have to do goose things, or put myself through the mill to gain goose acceptance only to get a pecking.

On the other hand, I still have to live here in the goose world, and I'll get a pecking if I ever decide to do turkey things.

For now though, I'm just happy and relieved to have given up on being a goose!

Glad you've figured things out though, thats so nice to hear. It sucks so much to have to worry about keeping up the image of being like everyone else.

It certainly does, but it's a great feeling when you make the decision to free yourself.

It's not so bad being a turkey in a goose's world. We might not quite qualify as 'free range', but there's no reason to feel bad about not being a goose.
