What are common stereotypes of pedophiles in society, and what is their accuracy?

In my humble opinion, the standard mythopoeic machine in our lurid age produces such an outlandish and unlikely fairytale bugbear that the figure of the paedophile is one both omnipresent and entirely absent. In other words, people suspect everyone and yet wouldn't know a paedophile if one were right under their noses.

Anyway, with regard to the standard stereotypes, they're usually derived from shoddy 'science' that focuses on convicted sex offenders and then extends those 'observations' (which tend to be derogatory characterizations conducive to buttressing orthodox sociocultural narratives dressed up as observations) to anyone attracted to children.

In that vein, I'd like to point out that I'm right-handed, was not dropped on my head as a baby, and my IQ is firmly in triple figures.

I think the stereotype that pedophiles are socially inept, insecure, fearful of others is somewhat true... since children are easy to take advantage of unlike women whom some people are scared of, a portion of them develop attractions to kids due to their social ineptness.

I they have no accuracy at all. My mother couldn't even guess the guy next door was a pedophile.

What you mean by that? That some people develop pedophilia? :|
"I know, I know I've let you down.
I've been a fool to myself.
I thought that I could live for no one else.
But now, through all the hurt and pain, Its time for me to respect. The ones you love
mean more than anything..."

Yes, I think there was a person on this forum who said his attraction to kids became greater after various unfortunate experiences with girls/women his age.... I may be wrong but Im convinced that he became "scared" of women due to the pain they inflicted on him, and now focuses more on little girls since they are innocent, sweet, etc.

It is normal that men feel a MILD DEGREE of attraction to prepubescents... nothing abnormal about that. Its just that this mild attraction that is instilled in many of us can devolve into a major attraction (pedophilia), due to emotional trauma, etc.

Furthermore im 99% sure that pedophilia can also develop from fixation and obsession with girls. Take POCD for example, there was a 16 year old guy a year or so ago who said when he was obsessed with pedophilia he masturbated to girls...sometimes he climaxed and found himself around....sometimes he did not. Same thing happened to me (I didnt masturbate to it however) when I had POCD...I compulsively checked girls to see if I was aroused and once in a blue moon, I found myself very aroused.

Now whenever I feel the compulsion to check, I ignore it and hence my POCD's severeity is lessened, along with my arousal to kids.

Point is any sort of obsession and fixation on kids sexually WILL LEAD to pedophilia... in fact one of the diagnostic criterion for Pedophilia was a (harmful) obsession on children.
