Don't feel bad about these peeps who seem to start every post they write with "I" or "my": due to the collapse-out of modern social structure, many people these days aren't getting enough recognition and acknowledgment, therefor a phenomena has emerged called "Conversational Narcissism". The result is that those who are feeling needy to be heard end up talking about themselves a lot and don't have much interest in listening to others.

Wasn't jon bennet ramsey like 5 years old when she was murdered?

are you telling me she was sexualized?
because of make-up?
not sure i understand you.

No, she was 6 years old.

She was sexualized because of what she wore.
Her value came from her sexual appeal/ behavior (at pageants), also because of her physical attractiveness when heavy make-up was used causing her to look sexy.
I'm alone by choice. It's just not my choice.

Can you give examples of this?
What exactly is a "sexualized child"

How can you tell the difference between a virgin and a girl who's been sexualized, by incest for example?

How can you tell the difference, and what about it don't you like, compared to cute/innocent children.

Ever heard of JonBenet Ramsey? That's an example of a sexualized child. A sexualized child is one who dresses like an adult, who has in certain ways acquired characteristics pertained to adults only.

She is actually correct though. That's exactly what sexualization means. Children who are made to look or act more mature using sex appeal. When there is a child behaving/dressing in a way that would be considered sexy is she was an adult...that child has been sexualized. I don't think it's cute.

Also Tabs, could you be a little less rude? Kthxbai.

And I didn't say I could tell the difference between a virgin and a nonvirgin. But there is a certain quality that is off putting. I also don't find the "slutty" look appealing in women...hence I don't really like porn very much. It's just a personal preference.

Damn, I totally do that.

I see that as objectification, not sexualisation.
She looked like a little girl made into an object that would win beauty pageants and achieve commercial success. (Not a little girl moulded to be sexual.)

I have a suspicion we call it "sexualisation" because it offends us and sexualisation is something we're meant to find offensive. (Whereas we should be accepting of "commercialisation" because so much of our lives is commercialised. :| )

completely disagree that jon bennet is sexualized or objectified at all.

she was a normal kid.
every little girl likes to play dress up and you're demonizing it and her as if taking an active participation in your childs life is bad or wrong.

that is nonsense.
sorry if that insults you pinky.
hearing you saying a child looks "slutty" is very disturbing to me.

platypus, it's okay to talk about yourself so long as you are someone.
if you're a nobody then yea, it's ego problem.
but when you actually are somebody cool, then it's okay to talk about yourself.

you can't associate child pagentry with pedophilia or sexualization of children. you can try, but you'll just look dumb doing it.

If that's written to me, then I think we are in agreement. I don't think child pageants have anything to do with paedophilia or sexualisation.

I dunno enough about JonBenét Ramsey to argue, but I think there is encouraging a child to participate in something they enjoy, and then there is pushing a child to achieve/win. Some of the beauty pageant parents seem a bit scary to me. :| It's like they have a need for their child to win in an attempt to overcome their own feelings of inadequacy. When I played dress ups it never required waxing or botox. I didn't need to smile or walk the right way either.

yes platypus, i think we all can agree that no parents are perfect.
and those who push their children to win, especially when they are very young, it's unhealthy sometimes.

but we've got to see the wider view, the bigger picture.

at least these parents are taking some involvement in their children's lives.
most parents don't even do that much.
at least they are spending time together as a family, that is not abuse, that is love.
it might be a bit dysfunctional, but you cannot blame the kids.

most parents are bad parents, but so long as they at least try to be involved, that's all we can ask for.

and that is why child pagentry is actually a great thing.
it's better than the parents who ignore their children and smoke meth in the bedroom all day.

I support playing dress ups but not child beauty competitions. Parents can get involved without there needing to be a winner or a prize.
