The U.S. system, in my mind, is mostly ran by hysteria and exploitation.

That might sound absolutely mad, but I have heard of kids that age who do act out sexually, sometimes very aggressively. You can blame it on porn. Blame it on pitiful excuses for parents. Blame it on subliminal messages from the Teletubbies. The question is: What do you do with them? How do you stop that behaviour before they take it into adulthood?

Sticking them on a sex offenders register at that age doesn't seem right to me. It's like branding them, at an age when they're discovering their sense of identity.

Some of them will probably feel ashamed when they get a bit older and grow into perfectly responsible adults. Some will probably need to be on some sort of register for life.

Naturally there will be a few who would have turned into dangerous arseholes anyway, but labelling kids of that age will probably make more, and no doubt some kids will grow up being told "You're a sex offender" because of some perfectly innocent doctors and nurses type game. They'll go into adolescence, and then adulthood, with that label slapped on their developing identity.

I agree with that, if anything it would only make things worse growing up and built up will only cause problems. and not like they knew any better cause their 9. Not saying it was write and maybe he did know better, but i didn't when i was a child and i was taken advantage of. They shouldn't have just through a label on him thy should of had him see a therapist, but for him to live with that for the rest of his life is just wrong.

College campus survey found that the average age of female attractiveness to males is 17-19, with obvious outliers going lower or higher..

Don't you think that your own classification of him as automatically having a disorder is a little strange, especially since in certain US states he would have been considered legally not at fault at all, and far less at fault in European countries?

Is he a bad person for having his hormones override his own self interest?

I think you misunderstand me. I don't see ephebophilia as a disorder, just as something this society deems abnormal but is perfectly fine in of itself. I don't see him as being bad. I'm attracted to younger women as well. Neither of us is attracted to children.

I don't think any less of him giving into his hormones, though I think should have thought it through better. I control my actions, despite my hormones, for my own selfinterest. That being said, I don't think he's stupid having done it, as its a hard thing to fight.

Does noone see something terribly wrong with a culture that, if two people like this have a sexual encounter that isn't rape, the older is sent to prison, labeled a pedophile, and raped and beaten in prison for being a "sex offender" on that account alone?

I have to wonder if you're a troll? Have you read this entire thread? I start out with a rant of how I don't think he should be sitting in jail. Just saying.

either you dont understand hyperbole, or you're trying to pick a fight. The culture in general views this as correct. Stop being a defensive idiot. Just saying.

If they could not possibly be held responsible in a situation where it was an older person with them, we're saying that they have no understanding of what they do. As such, they cannot possibly have the same amount of responsibility as "mature" sex offenders. They shouldn't be labeled as such, and they should be taught different, because at that age they can be.

Ones who act out aggressively like that have typically been a victim themselves.

in Albania, the age of consent is 14. so your brother would be off the hook if he had sex there.
