had never heard of PPD before today...need advice...

Postby whattodo? » Mon Nov 24, 2008 9:56 am

I knew something was going wrong with my boyfriend and I have some psychology education and I could see that when he was stressed it was worse, but maybe I slept through the class on PPD? I just found description of it today on the internet and it hit the nail on the head. He exhibits everything , down to the legal battles. Only thing is he isn't suspicious of me cheating, but he is sus. of me leaving him and he brings it up all the time. we have been together for 3.5 years now and it seems he's getting worse and worse. so, Im looking for advice on two things... one... Ive sent him info on PPD ( emails, we are separated right now) , and was that wrong and will it overwhelm him too much, and second... has anyone heard of how/if a need for sex all the time plays into this, or is it just something else going on with him?
Any response appreciated... Peace!

Hi, lovelitelife! Sorry about the late reply. Maybe the need for sex might have to do with his insecurity about you leaving. It might be good for him to know about this disorder, as some people who suffer from a disorder decide to change on their own. You could tell him that you're worried about him and that you care for him and you only want to help.
How are things now?

You need to look after yourself and not let others control you . If you feel you are being used by your boyfriend you are. Break it off otherwise you will have greater grief later on.

I don't know what to do, my bf just has these crazy swings of being totally happy and then totally depressed, and thats when he gets more paranoid. its gotten so bad he truly believes that our neighbor is tapping our phones. how do I deal with him believeing that?
he really needs help, but we can't afford anything. are there any "free" services?

Hey! You could try looking for some support groups. Could you talk to his family about this? Do they know?

Have you ever thought he may have another PD such as BPD (fear of abandonment is a major part of this disororder) with a co-morbid PPD.

My stbx husband is BPD with very strong paranoid part of his personality which like yours, also got worse under stress (he actually became psychotic with his paranoia when under a lot of stress).

You can't help him if he's not willing to realize that he is ill. With PDs, they really have to whole-heartedly want to get help, or the chances of their behavior improving is slim to none.
