PPD and anger

Postby Traum » Sat Sep 06, 2014 11:25 pm

People with paranoid personality disorder distrust or are suspicious about other people’s motives. This may lead to angry outbursts.

Specifically the angry outbursts.

Anyone else?
How often?
Figured out a way to control or let it go?

Yes.
Hmm. Not that often, but I keep to myself so it doesn't come up much. Over time, I've learned to keep my suspicions to myself, and this helps me control my angry outbursts. Learning to think before I speak and control my impulsivity has helped a lot. Now I think through all my suspicions in my head, and it gives me time to calm down before I accuse someone of something outloud. It really helps to sleep on it. It took me a long time to get to the point that I could think things through logically. Honestly, sometimes it simply doesn't help, and I have to ask or accuse. People get really annoyed with this behavior though.

Anxiety meds might help, too.

My ex (PPD) had angry outbursts when he would accuse people. 5+ times a week. He said it was the only way people would listen to him (not true).

This may be unhelpful to others, but I find that keeping a journal online to yell into and spill all your thoughts helps with my violent outbursts. I may get angry and think someone's trying to hurt me and want to yell at them right away, but first I try to isolate myself for a bit so it sizzles out and I don't end up hurting anyone. If I spill all my thoughts I end up feeling better than if I bottled them up. This may only help since I feel like everyone's watching me constantly and knows what my journal says anyway though, maybe...

I tried something similar once and I found that it did for me the exact opposite. It increased my anger due to thinking more on the subject as I wrote, and paranoia skyrocketed too. I ended up removing any evidence of it quickly after as well. Something about emotional outbursts in any sort of reading format was and has always been agitating.
