How long can an episode last?

Postby Katya-Katerina » Sun May 08, 2005 10:57 pm

Hello,

I'm 24 years old. About a month ago I had my first panic attack - at least this is what I was told at the hospital. Symptoms appeared out of the blue: I fell, cause my legs got very weak, I got very dizzy and felt tingling all over my body, even my face.

Now, for the last 4 days I have the same weird sensation of NUMBNESS and TINGLING ALL OVER. I don't have any OTHER symptoms. At first I was thinking it will go away, but it doesn't. Last night it got worse: I couldn't fall asleep because these sensations got very strong.

So, HERS's THE QUESTION - can a panic attack last for few days with only one symptom present?

Thank you!
K.

Yes they can hon.

Tingling in the face I got for a few days in a row out of the blue and I wasn't even feeling anxiety ridden at the time, but I knew that's what it was.

Anxiety or panic attacks vary in length for different people. For me my anxiety only lasts a few minutes as I am able to control them now.

Now i'm 25 and it took me a loooong time to be able to control them with postive self talk, breathing etc. I was diagnosed at 16 with Anixety Disorder, but I know I had it longer then that.

What are you automatic thoughts throughout the day when you feel the tingling?

Sometimes also the littlest thing can trigger anxiety in people.

Mine has lasted a month and is still running even as I type this.

It feels like you are out of your body, and there is a feeling that everything is real distant. But you can function properly. I feel slightly numb all over.

I have times where it feels like it is going then all of a sudden it comes back in waves. You feel like you are going to die.

The thing is it comes out of nowhere for no reason thats what scared me when I had my first attack. I thought I was having a stroke!

Any of this what you get?

^^

I get all of those symptoms when I have an attack. It's as though you're aware those things are happening to you during the attack, but at the same time, you have no idea that you are, infact, having an attack. Like you said, an out of body experience. When I have really bad attacks, my hands and face will tingle. I don't think I've ever really timed an attack, but I think they are roughly 30-60 mins. And like you, they come out of no where and I can have multiple attacks through out the day.
