Hey...

I just joined and I thought I'd introduce myself! I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder and Depression a while back, been abouuut... 6 months by now. I've been a lot less anxious the last months but my anxiety seems to be coming back to me :( . I don't know why. So, um I guess that sums up my situation.

Welcome to the Psychforums. :D

I know anxiety is not a fun thing to deal with. I've suffered with anxiety for over 8 yrs now.

Are you taking any medication to help you with the panic attacks?
Learning any different coping skills, talking to anyone etc?

Thanks!
Yeah, I've been on Celexa, an antidepressant since October of last year, and I've been seeing a therapist since Septemeber of last year.
Wow, 8 years is a while.

I was on Celexa and had a horrible time with it. I've been on a couple different anti-depressants as well. I'm currently on Effexor.

8 yrs ago is when I was diagnosed with GAD amoung other things, but I know that I suffered from anxiety later then that.

Are you talking to anyone to help you deal with the anxiety?

yeah, I'm seeing a therapist. Why was celexa bad for you? I was just wondering because I was actually considering switching my meds but I don't know yet.

For me personally, I couldn't handle the side effects.
I know alot of people whoever who have found this drug helpful.
Everyone will react to medication differently.

Why do you feel the need to change them?
How long have you been on Celexa?

I've been on Celexa since October of 2004. Its hard to explain why I want to try a different medication.

Basically, on Celexa, I still feel like somethings wrong on the inside. I have extremly low self esteem and I can feel it on the inside but since my meds started working, I havn't felt like I can quite bring my feelings to the outside. Its kind of hard in therapy. Or on my own. Its complicated. For example, before meds, I used to look in the mirror and pick myself apart and in the end, I'd end up crying my eyes dry. Now, I do the same thing but I hardly ever cry. I look in the mirror, insult myself repeaditly, and once I'm done, I just stand there with a blank face. Sometimes, I do cry, but most of the time I don't. It just feels so unnatural.

I know that probably sounds crazy. I've only ever been on Celexa, so I have no idea if this is because of the drug, or if it will change with another drug. Who knows.

I don't think that the Celexa is causing that, medication doesn't get rid of low self esteem, in my opinon it has nothing to do with the other.

I also have low self esteem, and I was constantly berating myself, but I had to learn to turn it around, make it sound postive, even if I didn't believe it.

How long have you been in therapy for?

Its not so much the berating myself that I find a problem, its more so the fact that once I'm done with it...I just feel normal, instead of sad and beaten up.

I've been in therapy since October 2004. Its about 6 months.
