Anxiety

Postby Misvenus000 » Mon Jun 23, 2008 2:54 am

Has anyone felt anxious only at night? Sometimes I feel great all day long. Sometimes I can go through the day feeling anxious. But lately, I have been feeling anxious only at night. This is the time when I would take Benadryl. I normally only take 2 every other night so I don't think its related to a withdraw. I am really confussed why I would feel great all day and feel anxious at night. This has happened twice now.. Anyone?

Hey,

How long does it take the Benadryl to work? I'm not familiar with it but maybe you take it at night specifically because night-time is your worst. There are a few reasons why you feel anxious at night: One could be that you are emotionally drained after the day and just want to relax and be away from everyone and everything (i.e. your days are stressful and you don't know how to 'unwind' in the evenings).

Benadryl is an antihystamine. Its to help with allergies but its also a sleep aid that my previous Therapist told me to take at night if I was having issues. It takes a good 20 minutes or so to kick in. It makes me feel a bit sleepy but it helps with my anxiety. I think that it does incorporate the wind down time when I have nothing else going on and all my kids are in bed. Also, I think I might anticipate it. As I think about it I feel that I know its going to happen and I know its coming so I bring it on myself. Its really dumb because I get anxious I know its coming... So thats why it happens. I could kick myself really.

Ah, don't be too hard on yourself. Taking care of children is a very tough task. The fact that you are stressed is indication-enough that you are taking good care of them! What age is your youngest? - I'm just wondering if there might be a case of post-natal depression... ...?

20 minutes is actually a very short time for something to work. MY anti-depressants didn't kick-in for a few months.

Take care,
Kevin

Benadryl is an antihistamine. Benadryl blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in the body.

Benadryl is used to treat sneezing; runny nose; itching, watery eyes; hives; rashes; itching; and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold.

Benadryl is also used to suppress coughs, to treat motion sickness, to induce sleep, and to treat mild forms of Parkinson's disease.

Benadryl may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Besides the list above. I think what they mean is that Benadryl is not an anti depressant. In a shorter sentence. Just in my case, I take it to get to bed at night. Its like Tylenol. It only takes a little bit of time to take effect.

I have twin 8 month olds. I wish it was associated with post partum but I have a longer history on it. I went to the therapist today but it was only for orientation. On July the 8th is my first day of counseling. They have doctors and nurses on call there at all times for you. Its a great little area. I just don't like the Group therapy. I would rather it be a one on one thing.

Hey again,

I never took to group therapy either, especially the way that they all sit around in a circle. I get nervous when peole are facing me like that and I only feel comfortable looking at the ground. Looking into peoples' eyes is scary.

I don't know.. ...could you ask if you could even geta few minutes one-on-one with someone?

When I did go into the place itself they had us in a waiting room talking about the issues at hand. I really didn't find it comfortable. So I told her to speak to her alone. She was really comfortable with that and I respected that. Unfortunately theres only group therapy at the place that I'm going to. Its on a sliding scale so i don't have to pay much. Me and my Fiancee are not married so I don't have any insurance yet. I should soon. After that I will probably move on to an individual doctor so she can work on me alone. I really don't want to sit in a room with strangers talking about my issues. I feel comfortable here because I am not face to face. Also, I don't wish to associate myself with people who are substance abusers, not because I do not like them but they trigger my anxiety and my panic attacks due to my ex that was on heroin.

I have never felt nervous speaking to someone and looking directly eye to eye. I can find it hard and maybe intimidating. Do you think thats why you have an issue in that area? In my opinion I would feel intimidated if that would scare you. I'm sorry that your going through that. I respect you for sharing that with me.

Oh, the eye-to-eye contact thing is just a symptom of what I have (Asperger's Syndrome). I still much prefer one-to-one sessions though, despite still not being able to make much eye contact. Anyway, if you are getting less out of the group sessions that you would expect, then stop going to them. It's your life and you dictate how you live it. As you implied, once you are married, you will have more funds to get better professional help.

I totally hear you! I haven't gone to one yet. My first day is the 8th of july. Im kind of hoping it works out. Then again I don't feel so sure if I can sit in a chair and listen to a bunch of people talking when Its my time and I am paying for it. I think I could do a much better evaluation of myself. But, after my fiancee called 911 from my severe panic attack, I knew that I had to do something. It just has to happen one way or another. I have come to conclude that I can't do this on my own and my body can't handle the stress anymore. I'm afraid that something serious will happen if I don't learn to relax and heal.
