What else can I do?

Postby miabellaangela » Tue Jul 25, 2006 2:44 pm

I started getting panic attacks after I moved and had to install a new furnace/ac system ($7300 which I had to put on credit).
At the same time some boys I knew were killed (I work in a school) and I found out I am getting moved to another school in Sept, which is not my choice.

I started 20mg of prozac and then went to 40 mg (been on 40 for about 10-12 days). I started seeing a counselor (been 1x so far). I have been doing a meditation CD, exercising and writing affirmations.

Sometimes I am fine and then all of a sudden I have this terrible anxiety and feel weak.

What else can I do to help myself????
I am very scared. I know it is "just" anxiety but I am scared it will not pass. I have been trying to do things with friends and the other day I just started crying and felt really dumb.

Have you started any type of therapy for your panic?

Positive affirmations will help but you need to use them all the time,
Positive self talk is key, this helps me ALOT but you need to keep practicing it until it clicks in and it'll start to work.

CBT- cognitive behavioural therapy does help alot.
Abdominal breathing, which you can look up diagrams online that will show you the proper way to do this.

Buying any self-help books on anxiety and panic disorder.

The one book that helped me alot is called: Don't Panic by R. Reid Wilson, ph.d was a fantastic books, also another one that was helpful for me is called: The anxiety & phobia workbook by Edmund J Bourne i believe.

prozac can take 6 weeks to work and occasionally never works

deep slow breathing, done in a relaxed way will calm you, valium always helps if you can get any
when you get a panic attack, try to relax and accept it, dont tense up or fight back, do breathe deep and slow, you can tell people you are having a migrane
although unpleasant, panic attacks wont harm you and do no damage to your heart
