I have been diagnosed with Conversion DIsorder but my symptoms present more like pain disorder. I had a traumatic event last summer and 6 months later I suddenly got a burning pain in my sacrum/tailbone. I can't work anymore. Over 4 1/2 months many tests (all negative) I have burning glute muscles and stiff, painful muscles in my right leg and arm. I have seen many doctors and one holistic pain doc does not think it is psychological, the other pain doc totally thinks it is (and he is a bit rude to me). My GP also does not think it is PD but any other GP I see (as my regular one is now on maternity leave) thinks it is PD. SO I am not taken seriously, not given proper support and I feel horrible and hopeless. I see a therapist (who thinks it is Conversion Disorder, don't get me started...) We talk about the trauma that happened to me but I don't feel any better as of yet.
Is anybody out there to talk to me about this? Does anyone know what I'm going through?

Hi,
I find it quite unfortunate that you are getting mixed messages from these professionals that you have gone to. For me, I think that getting through a problem is about making a more-or-less accurate diagnosis and then sticking with it. Once made, much effort has to be made on the part of the patient to improve their life, and it certainly is not just about therapy and/or medication. The biggest effort must come from you, and that includes researching your symptoms and making strong and sustained efforts to change your life. While saying this, if it is a genuine physical problem, then it's different than if it were a mental issue...
Do common pain-relief tablets (aspirin et al. ... ) help?
