Boarding School Is A Form Of Child Abuse

Boarding School Is A Form Of Child
Abuse
Children who are sent away by their parents to boarding school risk severe psychological damage, according to a leading psychotherapist. So bad is the problem that Nick Duffell, who has counselled former boarding school pupils, has now set up a support group.

Boarding School Survivors (BSS) will run workshops for sufferers of "boarding school syndrome" whose symptoms include a hatred of the opposite sex, intimacy problems and obsession with work.

Old thread but I thought I'd share my experience with boarding school.

I was sent to boarding school when I was 12. Around here the tradition is that the seniors bully and embarrass and humiliate the newcomers for the first few months.

That included having to do humiliating stuff in front of the other "inmates". Including singing, dancing, and basically anything that is embarrassing. The newcomers also had to carry the seniors school bags, make up their beds and clean their rooms. Everyone also had to be initiated by receiving lashed on their ass by seniors wielding cricket bats or hockey sticks. Also the newcomers where pushed around, made fun of and tormented by the others, not just seniors.

One incident that I remember was this: I was lying in my bed at night when suddenly a few older guys came in and held me down while another guy took out his dick and slapped me in my face with it.

Others things where being threatened with violence constantly.

Needless to say, I didn't make it there for more than a couple of months.

So yea, boarding schools are $#%^, especially for shy introverted guys.

Obesity camp? Anyways... what isn't a form of child abuse.

The whole concept of protecting child-hood innocence, is lost, as soon as they hit any social environment.

There is nothing about the world that lifts children into a socially acceptable psychotropic wonderfulness forever.

Did they make you suck it?

Don't get me started on foreign militaries and the press they receive.

Me 2 @ 12 y/o It gave me a vengeful angry side I didn't have before, me and friends got into doing vandalism to that place when ever we could and how ever we could without getting caught to hurt them back.

I was sent to boarding school from the age of 5 with my sister aged 6. I wouldn't say the school could be accused of abuse. But some of those points in the first post resonate with me. Suffice to say boarding school doesn't socialise kids very well a lot of the time. But the majority of kids who are a bit older, especially girls - because there is not the usual brutality that goes on in boys schools - should be able to handle it without long term problems.

Me and my sister went for 9 years to the same one and i went back to a different one in a second attempt at year 12.

Thanks for sharing the link i will read up on it now. I have never heard of anyone making this claim before so its interesting.

What a hideous looking website that rense.com one is . I am interested in finding out more about the study but i have no clue where on that site one can communicate or find anything. It must be built by someone with a disturbed mind - is what i think. Aaaaaaaaaargh!

I concur.
One of the greatest blasphemies is the taking of one's freedom of thought, dictating matters of the heart and the theft of another's personal peace.

Everyday I live is an act of rebellion.

I disagree that the concept of boarding school is abuse outright. It is not ideal for young children, but that does not mean it is abuse.

Some children thrive as it gives them a sense of independence to be away from home. Some children benefit because home would be a toxic environment otherwise. Some children benefit because their parents are on the move too much due to work, so boarding school gives them stability.

In regional areas of Australia, many children are sent to boarding school because they would have to travel way too far each day to get to a school.

Yes I agree, many children are traumatised by their experiences, but many are not. It is important to not make anything into a black and white issue.
