intrusive thoughts and help

Postby aesntone » Tue May 22, 2012 10:19 pm

what I've found that helps me with intrusive thoughts is thinking the opposite of what I usually do with my intrusive thoughts, thinking them before i think intrusive thoughts and then I realize that i don't want to act on them, but it can be difficult, I also use sarcasm with my intrusive thoughts and that definitely helps, but let me end with this if your afraid of attraction to your intrusive thoughts then your brain will start generating a false attraction, plus if you were heterosexually attracted before your OCD started just look at it as OCD, also don't test them I've even thought of acting my intrusive thoughts but then I realize i dont want I just to see if i'm aroused by them

I think all you say makes sense. You know you aren't H because it is only ideas coming from your OCD thoughts. You label the thoughts and attribute them to OCD. You try to avoid doing any compulsion because that makes you start patterns.
The thoughts themselves you diminish with sarcasm or you reinforce you normal brain by reaffirming the truth. I think if you get into a pattern of knowing what to do each time your brain misfires you have a good weapon to lessen the anxiety of your OCD. I like it Marg
