Two OCD's and worried

Postby Lucky1991 » Tue May 08, 2012 3:39 pm

Hey people. I'm a 20 year old male with two current OCD's.

The first I have had for a while now i.e. more than 4 years. It's when something touches the a side of my body (usually accidental) I must touch the exact same spot but on the opposite side of my body. I basically call it Left Right OCD because by side I mean either left or right half. Iv'e learnt to deal with this one though its annoying. Also this is a CONSTANT OCD i.e. there's never a second that buy without me consciously or sub-consciously playing out my OCD. I can restrain myself from doing it but that just makes me frustrated so I avoid it.

My 2'nd OCD is more recent and have had for a while now (maybe 1 a year I don't remember). It usually only occurs when i'm not around other people and is usually random and happens more than once once it starts. I get an urge (which is ALWAYS carried out) to scream. Though when I say scream I don't usually make much sound. It lasts from anywhere between 2-5 seconds and lately it gets slightly longer and longer. The only thing that will STRAIGHT AWAY stop it and go straight back as if it never happened is grabbing my head with my hands. I guess it kinda feels like a break-down though its not. I'm definitely not mental but it does worry me that it has worsened. And as I mentioned as soon as its over I go straight back to what I was doing and feel funny but I for some reason feel/act as if it never happened.

I felt like mentioning this on here and was hoping to get others opinions as to why I do it or what or just to discuss it briefly. Thanks,

Lucky. :)

Lucky, I hope that you don't think that I'm ignoring the details of what you wrote, but although the details of the obsessions and compulsions that people with ocd suffer from differ greatly, perhaps the help that we all need is similar.

I'm in my 50s now, but started suffering from ocd in my teens. Years of seeing different psychiatrists didn't help at all, (mind you, no-one seemed to have heard of ocd back then), but anti-depressants reduced the anxiety and obsessive thoughts a lot. Years later, cognitive behaviour therapy also helped a lot. There are also books which help with ways to overcome obsessions and compulsions.

I hope that this helps a bit. All the best.

Thanks for the reply funky. What's a coincidence, i happen to take drugs for a condition i have. these drugs are for treating major depression and anxiety dis-orders (which i do not have). I've put up with it so far so until it really starts effecting me i guess it's not a big issue just yet.

Hello again, Lucky. I'm glad to hear that your ocd isn't too bad at the moment. Have a look at some of Marg's posts if you want a recommendation for a good book on ocd. You can always post again here if you feel like another chat, or you have problems.

All the best,
funky.
