My parents think that doctors might give unhealthy medication to me for OCD. They think that it may have unknown side effects. In general, they don't seem to take my OCD seriously, and think I am just worrying too much about it and it is a non-issue. Of course, I disagree and I think I should go see a GP. I think both my parents especially my dad has OCD as well. What do you think and what are your experiences and knowledge? Is it possibly harmful or not and how should I communicate with my parents? By the way, I'm 15 and male.
Thanks everyone, I'll really appreciate your help.

Hi,
I have spoken to you in your other thread. I have OCd diagnosed and received medication for 4+ years to help me deal with it. The medication I took was an anti-depressant called Lexapro (escitalopram) and it belongs to the class of drugs known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). They have mild effects on the body, and the worse side-effects are probably the slightly-increased level of tiredness you feel and the slightly-decreased sex-drive/libido. It is 'wrong' in my eyes for your parents to see medication in a bad light, especially when it (medication) has the potantial to make your life better by helping you to deal with your mental 'stuff'.
... then again... I do understand their points-of-view.
If you can, print-off an article about medication that is commonly given for OCD, such as the one I took. Let them knoe the facts about medication before forming theor own opinion.
