Hi!
I am not sure if my am posting this in the right forum but I have read a bit about this on the net and it seems to be an OCD related problem. I am schizo-affective but my Dr said that I show some OCD symptoms as well.
I experience this EXTREME irritation when I hear somebody eat and I have been struggling with this since my teens and I am 29 now. And actually it not only that it irritates me but it upsets me when I hear someone eat and don’t like any mouth noises. When me and my lovy eat dinner and watch tv I sometimes cannot even concentrate on what is going on the tv as I just hear him eat and it drives me crazy. It is horrible! When I hear someone eat in the morning and get upset my whole day will be spoiled. And bubblegum, OMG!!! I sometimes feel that I can just bash in a person’s brains who chews loudly!
I am very sensitive to sounds in general. For example an aircon is something nobody will hear operating but to me it makes a terrible noise. A buss or truck passing me by also upsets me.
Advice?

I get this a lot. With me I became very irritable after coming down 1mg with risperdal and get uncontrollable movements. I am currently diagnosed with ocd and depression by my local doctor, although my psychologist thought I was mildly schizoaffective. I guess irritability is got to do with depression and your mood.

I have this...and just realized that other people do, too. It's sometimes called Selective Sound Sensitivity Syndrome
http://www.tinnitus-audiology.com/softsound.htmlI don't know if it's OCD-related or not. I had mild OCD as a teenager (I think that's what it was: had to do things in 4's, numbers had colors, objects had to be positioned until they felt right, tapped my feet in patterns, and had a weird obsession where I had a picture of a keyboard in my mind and everything I thought had to be in words that needed to be balanced out left/right-wise as if they were being typed out. Not sure if that's OCD and also not sure if I'm making any sense, lol). But I understand the sound irritation (anger, really). I've had it for 25 years and it's a pain.
Sorry you're dealing with this!

I have the same issue, though I'm only seventeen, so it might get worse. But since I'm in high school there are people constantly popping gum and taping on desks which really bothers me to either extreme of wanting to beat them or cry.but I also have visual irritation,I can't stand seeing someone chew or tap their feet.but on the hearing,I cants even eat dinner with my family,I have to be in my room with headphones in blasting, people singing even annoys me. And if this helps clear up any idea on what it could be,I can't stand being near people,I like school and shopping, but I can't stand leaving the house since I would have to be near people if I did.
