Do I have OCD?

Postby Beale » Fri Sep 18, 2009 4:17 pm

Hi Im new. *waves*

For years now ive been doing things that I didnt use to.

It started with a clock i used to have in my bedroom. I had to read the time and date out aloud. This could go on all night.

Then this changed to having to say the date and time out loud when the second hand reaches 15seconds.

Then I got rid of the clock. But I still have to do it when I see a clock.

Now I have to do that and this is going to sound strange but I have to say the time and date whilst touching the door handle I have to touch the door handle twenty times. Also on my Ipod when I listen to music when the song gets to 20 seconds I have to say " 20 seconds out of (how ever long the song is)

Also things have to be facing the right way or else it just bugs me.

I have to also lock the doors every night instead of my dad because if I dont I get worried incase they arnt locked.

If I dont do these things I get really horrible feeling inside that something bad is going to happen.

Do I have OCD? or is it something else.

Also dunno if this is the right forum to post but

I get scared of going outside when other people are like walking past. I also dont like getting on buses/going places because I think everyone is talking about me and laughing at me.

Thanks for the help.

I appreciate it.

Yo Beale,

Yeh, I think that if you went to your doctor, you'd get a diagnosis of OCD and anxiety. This is my official diagnosis, so I think that I know a bit about this stuff in particular. Everything you've mentioned smacks of OCD behaviour. i think you know this already but just wanted someone else to tell you. How bad does all of this make you feel though?; or how much time does it take out of your day? The amount of time is a key factor really. If the OCD is such that it's only taking up a few minutes, then it can be manageable. However, in some cases, it can take up hours.

Okay, in that case, action must be taken. You can't go on like this because it could very well just get worse and worse. We all feel that we can tackle these things, but look back with experience and ask yourself if things have gotten better before?; or have they just become progressively worse? Do you have a family that can support you? What you should do is phone your local doctor and then arrange an appointment as soon as you can. He/she will have dealt with this before, possibly many times - trust me. i know that there's a fantastic person inside you, Beale, but this problem must be tackled for that wonderful person inside you to be released. Take things easy.
