Help: Wife has annoying problem.

Postby Kevin23 » Sat Jan 24, 2009 4:18 pm

My wife is 33 years old, big time OCD type personality but she has one trait that is absolutely driving me nuts. She CONSTANTLY is blowing her nose. She blows her nose to the point of obsession even when she does not have a cold or allergy.

I know this may sound funny but it is embarrassing that she constantly does it in public or when we go out. She never stops, there are tissues all over the house and in every room she goes in. What can I do about this?? How can I address this issue without seeming petty and abrasive? What causes this behavior? The Dr.'s say there is nothing wrong with it when I ask about it. I haven't really confronted her yet other than to say "Why do you blow your nose all the time?" She gives me an answer "Because I need to". But when she blows, it's obvious its a dry blow. She's not even sick.

Thanks all.

Hi,

I have had OCD for many years now and I suspect that she is doing this merely out of habit and that it is therefore very much part of her OCD. You should let her know that you know it has become excessive and that you know she is only doing it out of habit. If you talk to her in questions (such as why are you doing this all of the time?), then she will always flat-out deny it or refute the question.

You have to get her to see that this is a problem, socially-speaking. As I said, I have OCD and I therefore know that some of our obsessions can go 'unnoticed' by ourselves for long periods of time. By the time we notice, we may have already damaged our lives.
