Hi, I doubt I have OCD, but there's a strange obsession I have. It has to do with me carrying my personal belongings when I venture outside. I constantly check to make sure I have everything on me, the expensive stuff for the most part. The worst is a bus transfer, when I put it in my pocket, I always keep checking to see it's still there, thinking I might have pulled it out the pocket when I took my hand out the pocket after just checking if I still had it. Is this obsessive compulsive?

Saku, this is OCD alright. It doesn't sound like a serious form of it, but you must be aware that OCD always starts out small and then grows gradually. So, you may find yourself checking different things aswell as your expensive items. Anyway, if this is in any way causing you anxiety or stress, then just pop-into your doctor and talk to him/her about it. It's not such an unusual thing these days, and if you tackle it in the early stages, you should be okay.

the only time it seems to cause anxiety and/or stress, is when I see the bus is closing in. I continue to keep checking if the bus transfer/tickets are still there, or I hold them tightly in my hand. I really hope it doesn't get worse. The only other form of OCD symptom I can think of that I may have is checking my alarm clock. I always check at least 5 times to make absolutely sure it's set to wake me up, or to make sure it's set at the right time, AM or PM, etc....I'm gonna see my family doctor soon about something completely unrelated(possible ear infection), I suppose I will bring up some of my other issues at the same time...

Hi saku,
Yeh, please raise this issue with your family doctor when you go to see him/her. There is the potential that the OCD could 'spread' (like a virus or something) and end-up controlling your entire life. I let my OCD completely take-over me and it was just horrible.
I wish you well my friend,
Kevin
