Has anyone had any success dealing with OCD without medication? I previously was on Luvox which helped me immensely! However, when I became pregnant, I stopped taking the Luvox because the doctors could not tell me for sure whether or not it would harm my baby. I recently gave birth, the baby's fine, and I am currently breastfeeding...which means still no Luvox for me! My OCD is getting steadily worse! For example, way back in February there was an incident that I am STILL obsessing about! When I got my mail that day, there was wet, fresh blood on it...apparently from the mail carrier. Before I noticed the blood, I set the mail on my dining room table. Now I am convinced that my dining table and chairs are contaminated. I know that thinking this way is irrational, but just can't get past it! I need assurance that my family and I are OK to use our table. Man, how crazy does that sound? Also, any ideas for dealing with OCD without meds would be greatly appreciated!

Heya,
Firstly, I think that you were right to be very concerned by the blood, and you SHOULD give your table a wipe-down with a disinfectant (just to be safe).
Secondly, I was diagnosed with OCD around 4 years ago but I have been on medication the entire time. I manage to get through the most damaging of my symptoms through therapy but, again, I was on medication during all of that. The best thing that I think you could do is to go to a counsellor about it for the time-being. Another thing that you could try is to enlist your partner for help until the time comes when you can resume the medication. For example, the next time you feel an OCD urge coming along, tell your partner about it and ask him what would be the best way to handle it.
Take care,
Kevin
