OCD Mild

Postby Pammila » Wed Aug 20, 2008 1:55 pm

I have been told by the counselors that I have OCD I also have Borderline Personality, ADHD, PTSD and Bipolar.

I have repeating negative thoughts about my past abuse. I talk over and over again about my past growing up.

I count trains, and cracks in the sidewalk. I also will eat ice all day long. I think them are OCD but other then that I don't think I have it bad like other people.

Hey,

I don't think that these things point to OCD specifically, but there may be something else going on 'underneath' all of what you have mentioned (i.e. - an underlying disorder that causes these things). For example, my underlying disorder is Asperger's Syndrome, and it causes me to have OCD, Depression, Anxiety, etc.

You've been to a few different counsellors? - How many? Did they each diagnose something different.

I was only guessing what could be the OCD that I have, I went to Bridgeway, and they told me I had multiple disorders. My doctor also treated me for OCD.

I have been on multiple medications Prozac, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Rispuderal, Clonzepam, Stratara, Cymbolta, Lithium, and recently Geodone.

Sorry if my spelling is off. I can't remember how to spell all these medications.

I am not sure what all of the medications where for, but I went off everything but the Geodone.

Hey again,

They actually said to you that you have multiple disorders? My view is that that isn't helpful, but how did you feel when they said this? You have been put on so many medications too - Did you stop taking everything except Geodone on your own accord?; or did a doctor tell you to do this? I can't help but feel that it's irresponsible to continue to prescribe so many medications to a single patient. In my view, most of the time it's not a problem with the medication, but is a problem with the patient's perception of the medication. I mean, many patients think that these drugs will just take their pain away. Well, that was never what they were supposed to do. They are taken to assist us to a recovery, but most of the 'healing' work must come from ourselves.

Take care,
Kevin

Both they cut me back on some of the medications and some I just stopped taking cause I ran out and just didn't get the doctor to refill the prescription. I was suppose to take Metformin but I just didn't get it filled. I was going to talk to the doctor about how important that one was, it was suppose to be for my overy problem. But I hear it also helps to loose weight.

I am going back to the doctor to see about getting my ADHD treated, as I have been having trouble focusing on work. I keep spending my time on boards that don't help me with my credit work.

I am on disability, so I don't have a normal job, I just get paid a little on the side for posting on a credit board. I have even written articles for the site. I am suppose to be moving posts, but that is so time consuming. I keep stalling.

I am not looking for treatment of the OCD unless it can stop the bad thoughts I have periodically the racing thoughts. I make sure to keep the tv on all day to drown out my thoughts. I can't go to sleep without the tv on.

Thanks,

Pammila

Hey again,

Have you ever seen a therapist about your OCD? I was diagnosed with it around 5 years ago and saw a therapist thereafter. She helped me a lot, to be honest. Anyway, keeping the TV on all night isn't ideal, but I DO understand why you do it. However, it wastes a lot of electricity (and, therefore, money), so, maybe you could try to change this to listening to the radio instead. What do you think?

I think I like the tv better, my husband always comes in and turns the tv off after I have fallen asleep since he is up later then me.

When I seen the counselor it was more for my bipolar problem I quit going to the bridgway we have here cause they billed me when I have a medical card, I could not pay for the bill they sent me so I stopped services.

I have a doctor left and he has a counselor in his office but I had not went since it is an hour away, but I would be willing to if I needed to. Just that I would have to space out visits due to gas prices.

Okay, whatever you you do, Pammila, just ensure that your mental problems don't become the only thing that you think of each day and night. There is much more to life than worrying about what is happening in our head. If you can, just let your body operate on 'autopilot' (i.e. instinctively). Be loose; be free; smile even if you don't want to; and, if you love your husband, tell him so.

Take care my friend,
Kevin

I
Yes they say the computer message boards are addictive and certainly can be and i prefer inperson contact, becuz the geniuses like Gates created the internet, and theythemselves often have OCD or a spectrum 'disorder'. You are aware of it so now you can try to monitor your behavior. It IS possible to livein peace w-out the tv constantly on, believe me. I spent the better part of the 1990's with tv and radio and shouting and singing on constantly,
you know what helped and ended it? turning off the tv andlistening to AM talk radio.

I am of the opinion that the world would be a better place without TVs, radios, and computers. My brother nearly threw-out his TV once, in fact, but his girlfriend (who was due to move-in with him) disagreed strongly. I am being a bit double-sided here too because here I am right now using a computer; and later on I will be watching TV. I was born with these items at my disposal, which is why it is so difficult to get rid of them.
