In my own experience, intermittent reinforcement makes my compulsions stronger, so I feel giving reassurance is making the situation worse. What are your thoughts? Thank you.

I think at some point, we have to dig our heels in, and suck it up. At least, as far as intrusive thoughts go. Reassurance around here, seems to be like a drug. As a mod, when I comment, I'll offer a little, but I won't go on and on with it- at some point a person just got to have some faith that they're not whatever it is they're afraid of.

Hi Snaga,
Thank you for replying. It’s a sticky wicket, for sure. We want to be supportive without enabling. I’m working on questioning my own compulsions & tolerating the discomfort that goes with not following through on them. It’s a process, but it does help to see fellow travelers on their own paths.
