Obsession: What's Helping Me

Postby hopeithelps » Tue Jul 10, 2018 8:37 pm

I was diagnosed with OCD, mainly or entirely obsessions, many years ago and it's been an off-and-on struggle. I'm not going to say what form my obsessions take, for a number of reasons, one being that what I've found could apply to many kinds.

I've read and read and read trying to find a way out. In several places I saw that non-OCD people often have the same disturbing thoughts pop up in their minds that OCD sufferers do, but they just don't get stuck on them. I wondered, "Why don't they? How do they do that?"

After a lot more reading I ran down 2 ideas that have been helpful to me. Please keep reading when you see them; I know this is not an instant fix.

1. They just shrug and get on with their lives.
2. They take it on faith. (In my case "it" was what I used to think, and what most other people seem to think on the obsessed-about subject.)

Of course my mind came up with objections, and told me I shouldn't do the above things. But as time went by, I found myself sometimes kinda halfway doing them, shrugging and at least trying to get on with my life. Then I started playing around a little with taking it on faith. It started happening more and more and lasting longer. I've gotten more and more back into my life.

I think I'll stop here so that maybe you can take these ideas and use them in your own way. You may not even have to really DO anything, but rather let it happen.

I'm not looking for comments (but of course go ahead if you want to.) I may not even check back here. I have a lot of hope that my normal life will now occupy most of my time, maybe eventually all of it. I just wanted to take the chance that I could help you.
