Compulsively popping joints??

Postby Hebi » Sun Dec 17, 2017 2:27 am

So, I feel like this is really weird, and I’ve never brought it up with my pdoc, but it seems to be escalating. I literally can not stop popping joints. I pop my own toes and fingers constantly. I have three different ways I can pop my fingers, I also pop each individual joint on each finger, and I pop my toes two different ways. I have an order that I pop everything in, starting with my toes and then each finger in a very particular way. If I can’t get one to pop, I can not stop messing with it until I mange to make it pop. If it won’t pop, I start over from the beginning with my toes and then try again.

It has gotten way worse, because now, when I can’t relieve my tension and my “need” to do this by successfully popping my digits in the order, I have moved on to popping my boyfriend’s joints, also in an order and particular way. With him, I start with his fingers and then do his toes, and I do it pretty frequently to him... He tells me sometimes I hurt him trying so hard to pop his joints, yesterday I he wouldn’t let me pop his toes and I almost lost it. I also noticed one day while petting my cat, that her back pops, and now I’ve started popping my cats back when I can’t seem to get relief popping everything else.

Even while writing this, I’ve stopped 4 different times to pop my joints. I don’t want to keep doing this as often as I am. I can not stop myself. The longer I try to go without popping them, the more and more unbearable it gets and I get so frustrated. Every time I pop them, and I get to the last one, I think, if this pops then I won’t have to do it again but then 5 minutes later I’m popping them again. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Or what might help? I can’t find anything when I try to google it.

Google OCD? Joint-popping is a one of many obsessive/compulsive forms of this disorder.

Wait, really? I googled stuff like “addicted to popping joints” “constantly popping joints” and I tried “ocd popping joints” and I found this which gives it mention as another feature, but I was looking for something a bit more specific all of the other literature seems to be geared toward excessive popping, but not really as excessive as mine is...
