Yes, I can sort of relate. I had POCD, but not in the conventional sense. I couldn't read the news or watch tele in case there was something related to child abuse and I would some how become tainted by it and it would change me. It isn't as bad as it used to be, but I still avoid the media (even Facebook because news crops up on there sometimes) and I get my husband to read the 'safe' new stories out to me.
Apparently it's known as 'mental contamination' or emotional contamination'.
I've had these obsessions a few times. Are you having any treatment at the moment?

I can relate to this too. I have a huge fear of reading any kind of serious news or being on social media. If I read about someone's wrongdoing I somehow convince myself maybe I'm capable of doing something awful or maybe I have and don't know it. I will say therapy is helping me, slowly.

I also find that I can't read about murders and attacks for the same reason. I'm glad therapy is helping. I think it's a long term thing and won't happen overnight.

Hi RecoveryGuru.
Do you mean exposure? I'm about to start that in earnest next week.

About 8 years I decided to follow my own spiritual path. I still fear learning will damage my mind, but I have become strong inside by thinking of mantras that I created myself. Mantras about love, peace, joy, strength, understanding, and so on. Since I created them myself I do not fear them so much and as I improved the fear of learning was not as bad.

I have bipolar 1 and OCD too. I get even more obsessional when manic, hypomanic or mixed. Last year's episode left me in tatters.
I agree that spirituality is important, but I often find myself getting very spiritual (well, delusional) when mania or hypomania is setting in. It's now at the point where I worry about doing spiritual stuff in case it means that I'm heading for another episode.

Hi cloudshark,
I used to have the same issue with spirituality. Now I am an atheist that is deeply involved with my family, love and understanding. I used to be a christian for 20 years of my life. Then I tried tai chi and buddhism for 6 years. I eventually decided that spirituality (as long as it's helpful) is ok.
