Ocd make you think you just said something you didn't?

Postby MERICA » Thu Feb 11, 2016 3:31 am

Hi, lately I've had the the thought that I said something without realizing it. Example: I'm riding the bus to work and looking at my phone, suddenly I realize I was day dreaming and I think did I say "_____". Without realizing it? Of "___" is something that is something horrible and offensive that will 100% cause me to be fired if I did say it. So for the rest of the day I'll worry about it and try to think my way into knowing whether I did in fact say the thing but I have no actual evidence or memory that I did say other than the intrusive thought that says "did I just say "__" ". Is this a common ocd thing or something else?

Yeah, I think it's a pretty common OCD thing. The French know it as 'the doubting disease'. It can make you doubt just about anything - including whether or not you've just said something you shouldn't.

Thanks, it's really annoying to think you've said something that you didn't even think. Just some random thing pops in your head and you think you said it aloud. It only happens to me if I'm daydreaming or focused on something outside of reality of that makes sense then I start wondering if I said something when I wasn't paying attention, of course it's always something bad so it makes it worse. This new to me so I'm not really familiar with how to treat/deal with this. Are there any over the counter supplements or medications that deal with thiese issues?

It can actually make you say stuff in your head too I think but they would be unwanted and intrusive to you.

I've had the same thing too and so have other people. You're not alone in this. I'm still new to this diagnosis and learning, but I find that eating healthily, exercise, enough sleep and things like Yoga and mindfulness help. I can't speak about supplements, but fish oil can't hurt.

It's a real learning curve.

Thanks I eat healthy and excercise a lot already. It's weird how this works all of sudden I just started obsessing over things like this out of no where. First it was the car door and light being locked then I moved past that and it was the front door lock then it was indecisiveness about the simplest of things and now it's this. Makes me wonder what the next cycle will be lol. Hopefully something that's unimportant so it won't matter.
