I have bad thoughts, but I intentionally put them there.
In general I have two types of bad thoughts
(1) Sometimes they pop into my head and from start to finish they last maybe a second at the most.
(2) Other times, I deliberately, purposefully, intentionally, place bad thoughts in my head, and they might last about 2 seconds at the most.
I'm worried because (2) does not resemble OCD type intrusive thoughts. That said, I've only recenlty had an OCD diagnosis so I do not know much about the condition at all.
When you have intrusive thoughts, do they come from nowhere or do you intentionally place them there?

Dear Jaracove:
In my experience of 50 years of OCD it is both: thoughts that come from nowhere, that is unexpected AND thoughts that I purposefully place in my head. Both.
I hope this is helpful. If there is anything else, please post here again and i will reply.

Thank you very much for confirming this for me Atina, it's very much appreciated

Being newly diagnosed with OCD I'm finding this is all new to me so I'm not sure what to think of it. I also have ADHD and CPTSD and one of the issues I have is needing to know things because I find uncertainty intolerable. Your words are very reassuring so thank you again

Anytime, please do post anytime on this thread. I have it marked so I get a notice when there is a post on this thread and i will respond as soon as I get it. So anytime I can possibly help. I too was diagnosed with PTSD as well as OCD and displayed symptoms of ADD... so anytime!

Thank you Atina, and if there's any way at all I can help, I will try and do so as well.
I've also been diagnosed with CPTSD and ADHD and it all makes for quite an experience

Dear Jaracove:
I am not familiar with the C in CPTSD. What does it stand for? "Quite an experience" you wrote, having been diagnosed with all three. It is my experience that ongoing fear, anxiety, shows up in different ways, many different ways, affects our lives in so many ways and so it fits different diagnoses. Share anything here that you feel like, that may help you feel better.

Hi Atina
The 'C' stands for Complex, which means it's been happening over a long period of time. Years in my case.

This is fascinating to me: I read about Complex PTSD, that it was a proposed diagnosis. I didn't know it was accepted officially as such. I am familiar and read a LOT about CPTSD then (did not associate the C with Complex until you clarified it to me, than you).

I'm a Christian and my OCD centres around scrupulosity and in particular a fear of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, so most if not all of my bad thoughts are centred around blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
Up until last night, when I've had a bad thought, I've always felt anguish and guilt, and this comforts me because it tells me my reactions of guilt are what a normal person would feel; guilt at having a bad thought.
But what about having a bad thought that you do not feel anguish or guilt over? At least not at the moment you have that bad thought?
I was just thinking, but then my train of thought sort of slipped into what I think might have been a sinful thought against the Holy Spirit. It was brief, over and done with in half a second (it wasn't some long drawn out sinful thought). But at the precise moment I had the thought I never felt guilt. It was a second later I felt guilt and that scares me. I literally did not even realise I'd had a sinful thought until after I'd thought it.
Does this sound like OCD?

Another related question: Is it possible to have an intrusive thoughts when you are feeling relaxed?
