The good and bad of OCD - dreaming.

Postby djslanty » Thu Dec 17, 2015 3:07 pm

During this process your brain is tackling ones OCD through a process I've described long ago which resembles defragmentation (cleaning of ones memory) in a computer.
What goes on when someone has a dream related to ones OCD is that the brain itself recognizes that the thoughts as detrimental to ones well being thus reviews past those thoughts through ones REM sleep.
This is often very scary to the sufferer as sleep is often a refuge from ones day to day OCD, but fear not , for this is a good thing that your dream state is tackling your OCD, for it's trying to eradicate the OCD via cleaning ones memory of such.

Wow. This is amazing. Not only because its very helpful, and i never knew it before, but also cause i woke up about an hour ago and i had a gay dream, which sent me on a downward spiral of googling if thats normal in OCD. Thank you

I had one too unfortunately. Which starts the train of thought thinking I must want it if I dream it.

yeah true and it sucks cause last night i was actually pretty level headed, felt somewhat good and knew i was straight(still doubt in the back of my head). Then i had a dream that had gay themes(dont wanna go into detail and spike anyone) and woke up freaked out. This post really chilled me out though, ill have to remember this for next time.

To make matters worse, I also have a tendency to have earworms a lot more of random to not random songs or sometimes older songs but its usually ones I don't want in my head and the ones I do don't show up lol.

Glad I could be of help .

The common problem with those of this disorder and others, is that people don't often get proper sleep (8pm - 8:30pm at the latest) and get 8-9 hours of sleep.

This issue results in lack of REM sleep and lack of dream states that help get deal with ones harmful thoughts.
Those with PTSD for example have a markable increase in benefits when proper sleep is established.
