Letter "O"

Postby cameraop » Wed Nov 15, 2006 1:55 am

Hi everyone,I was wondering if anyone can help me with this strange ocd that I have. For some reason or another, I have to either put a line through the letter "O' or I darken the"letter"O" with a pencil or a pen. I know this sounds strange but I can't figure this out. Is there a name for this strange OCD. I am seeing a Psychologist and a Psychiatist for my depression and OCD. I look forward to your response.
Thanks

the letter o

Well, since the letter O represents a circle, which represents infinity, the fact that sometimes you draw a line through it can mean that at that particular moment, you want something repetitive to end, and while you're darkening the circle (I'm assuming you're going round and round the O, making it darker with each stroke of the pen/pencil) that you are obsessing over something that happens repetitively. It could be your brain's way of trying to cope with your thoughts that you can't seem to stop.

Hope this helps. And I too do the round and round thing with the O when I'm feeling on edge.

Love and Light,

Angie

Hi,
I don´t think this is any stranger than any other compulsion. It is one of a million different ways to obsess. I don´t know why it would have to symbolise anything or why it has to mean something just because it is a particular letter. I myself used to have a lot of problems with the colour green.
Take care now, Lovisa.

Wow that was a really great observation and connection. That makes sense.

O's

Postby silver_bullet6988 » Thu Nov 30, 2006 7:04 am

I also put a line through all my O's. I have many many certain things I must do when I write. But, writing is not the only form of obsessing I have, but I'll explain some of my writing first.

My capital A, C, D, E, I, M, O, and W have to be made this certain way. It's hard to explain clearly without a visual. Also all of my dots on my lower case i's and j's are x's. When I write in cursive I have to make sure all of my letters connect. I don't write slow to correct it. I will write a sentence or two and then go back and make sure all the letters are connected. If they are not then I will draw a little line connecting them or I will draw a line through the whole word, but not in the exact middle. The line is more towards the bottom of the word. My words must have at least two letters touching the line it is written on. I have to write in pen unless it is indicated otherwise. My Exclamation points look like upside down triangles with x's beneath them.

Also anytime I pick up something to write with my mind instantly either says "this is okay to write with" or "this is not okay to write with". There may be nothing wrong with the pen that I can tell, but I just can not bring myself to use it. This becomes annoying when the one pen I let myself use runs out of ink and I have to search for another pen that I don't get weird feelings about when I pick it up.

Wow...there are soooo many more, but that's enough for now.
