Is Blushing Syndrome a form of OCD?

Postby ccyanide » Sat Dec 06, 2014 12:57 pm

Hi everyone..I'm new here and sorry for my English. I have social phobia because of blushing or vice versa  I avoid almost every situation where are a lot of triggers to blush. It is torturing and life ruining for a young person to live this kind of a life.I've tried medication, psychotherapy but nothing worked for me. I developed depression, severe anxiety and have constant suicidal thoughts.when I look from the other persons perspective It's even funny how can someone suffer from red cheeks that much and I'm far from being a teenager. But that's my deluded reality where I'm stuck and can't escape it..I tried hard very hard.so I have a question..is it possible that this is some kind of an obsession and the truth is I have OCD instead of SAD? my doc doesn't like to use medical termines with her patients so I'm confused and hopeless.

hi ccyanide.

i'm sorry i don't know much about SAD. but i'm truly sorry for your pain. and don't worry about english. english isn't my first language too.

OCD can be anything. so if you're asking whether blushing can be a form of OCD, yeah it's possible. BUT... OCD usually include both obsession and compulsion. do you have unreasonable thoughts that lead you to perform repetitive rituals/behavior? and the thoughts and rituals cause real distress and get in the way of daily life.

only your pdoc who can tell you whether it's OCD or SAD. but doctor can be wrong. so get a second or third opinion may help.

i hope you feel better soon. good luck.

thanks for your reply :)
no I don't engage in any kind of a compulsive behaviour to avoid my blushing.it's not a delusional thought it actually happens all the time my emotions are triggered I've spent so much time and effort seeked for help from different specialists..and still the same

What medication did you try, how long, and what dose? SSRIs take 1.5 Months to start working at all and low doses are pretty worthless for OCD. A high dose, however...
