Extremely Intrusive Thoughts While Reading/Thinking

Postby lingering » Thu Sep 18, 2014 9:24 pm

Hey all,

For the past five or six months, I've been REALLY struggling with a type of OCD where I rethink/reread thoughts and passages OVER AND OVER AGAIN because I get the feeling that I didn't quite understand something--especially when a negative is present. (i.e. not/never/nowhere) To describe my symptoms, I feel extremely uncomfortable mentally and feel a type of heat coming over my head.

I've tried EVERYTHING to try to fix it. I've tried ignoring my symptoms and thoughts, but I can't seem to get over it. Please tell me what some possibilities for therapy are--it really is taking over my entire life.

hi Lingering. i am sorry this is happening to you

i also do this, though i think it's not from OCD 100% (maybe anxiety). but i am not sure.

however i personally think you need to beat your compulsion. re-reading something is normal process. but if you're doing it excessively, you need to address the issue

let go of it. you can re-read it only once. force yourself to look away from the part you've read and then look straight at the next part. you need to know, with OCD, although you have re-read it hundred times, you still doubt if you've read it correctly. you just have to get used to telling yourself to stop it

if you think you can't handle this thing on your own,it would be helpful to share your concern with pdoc. seek professional help. hope things will improve :)
fminorless life is a living death. hdos.
