My son is 9 and has been diagnosed as sever OCD with thought disorder. He has been receiving treatment for 2 years. The first year his treatment consisted of talk therapy. The last year has included medication (several) from a psychiatrist and counseling from a psychologist. A year later and his OCD has not improved. It is so severe he was unable to attend school last year (homeschool) and won't be going again this year. Both his psychiatrist and psychologist have mentioned the possibility of having to institutionalize him. After the initial shock my wife and I almost think this may be the best path forward not only to help him but his younger siblings also. He has 3 younger siblings, 2 of which are exhibiting OCD type symptoms, not necessarily because they have it but they see and hear it all the time. We have had several discussions with the younger children but at 6 yrs and 4 yrs they don't understand. I am wondering if anyone here has utilized in-patient services to help there child with OCD, what facility you went to and if afterwards you thought it was beneficial. The psychiatrist we see has never recommended in-patient services before so doesn't have any first hand recommendations. The psychologist has since discontinued his service as he didn't feel his approach was helping at all. My son has been on different levels of Prozac, Zoloft, Zoloft/Risperidone. His Zoloft was recently increased for the last time. The next step we are told is to add Abilify. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear about your child. It's an awful thing to have OCD at any age, but having it so young is a sad things.
I'm sorry I don't know much about OCD in children and have rarely heard cases of them. Have they gone over the details of how in-patient therapy might work?
Anyway, i did a search on the net and there are a few sites that talk about children with OCD. I assume you did this already.
