This thing with my fingertips *TW?*

Postby Bonnnie » Sat May 31, 2014 9:19 pm

**I'm not sure, but just incase, this MAY be a trigger. I'm not sure, so I wanted to warn people just in case**

One of the major OCD things with me, is about my fingertips.
For example, my fingernails are typically a little longer than my finger, and I always feel the need to press the skin of my fingers against the underside of my fingernail. (I hope that makes sense because I don't really know how else to explain it.)
I always crack my knuckles, too.
But there are times where I have to press the skin against my fingernails a certain amount of times, and can't do anything else until it's done. It doesn't have to be a certain amount of time, either. Sometimes it's just until it feels right.
It's the same with sanitzing my hands. I always have hand sanitizer with me.
Anyway!
This thing with my fingertips...
Has anyone else heard of it, or have felt this?
It drives me INSANE.

I won't leave you
I will catch you, when you feel like letting go
'Cause you're not
you're not alone.

What happens if you don't do it? Does your anxiety spike?

I haven't heard of this particular compulsion before, but that doesn't mean much. It's just a temporary fix to resolve your intrusive thought. Sounds to me like you will need to start resisting your compulsion(s) if you want to start healing and breaking out of the OCD loops.

My anxiety doesn't spike right away, but it does grow worse. I've tried to go a whole day without doing it, and it just doesn't work. I get shaky and stuff.
Like, I think it was more for a comfort to start with, and now it's more of a compulsion.
I try not to think about it, and that helps a little.
But there are times where I'm typing and I have to stop typing to do it and then continue to type.

Do you have any other compulsions that you do?

Uhm, I have to wash my hands after doing certain activities.
There are a few, I just can't remember them all.

I DO THIS! I was googling to see if anyone else does it and why. Is it OCD? I have an anxiety disorder but I am constantly pressing my fingertips into my nail and biting my fingertips and pressing them like soooo many times in a row before I can move on to do something else but not a specific amount, mostly my pinkys!!
