ROCD...

Postby Sarahmarie » Sat Mar 08, 2014 4:08 am

Hello, I am a 25 year old woman in a relationship.

Lately I've been suffering from different types of OCD and now I'm stuck on ROCD...

My ROCD consists of thoughts of liking my boyfriend's friend and feeling absolutely guilty about it even though I've yet to meet him but will in a few days.. These thoughts are truly weirding me out. I'm anxious to tell my boyfriend but what is there to tell without sounding crazy? Why do I feel guilty without even doing anything? This ROCD keeps bringing up what ifs then I'm in a loop questioning if I truly love my boyfriend or not..

How can I stop these stupid thoughts???

Have you ever been diagnosed with OCD? Have you ever seen a doctor. When you say lately and "all types" does this mean all of this is new?

Hello, Otter.

No, I haven't been diagnosed and no I haven't seen a doctor about this.
And yes, this is all new to me.

It does seems like there are OCD symptoms, if I get you right; you do not want these thoughts about your boyfriend's friend, they are intrusive, they are causing you to "what if" your relationship, and you want these thoughts to go away.

But, as you said, you have had other OCD-like problems recently, so maybe you are at a point in your life where anxiety/OCD has taken hold overall and could get worse. Or it may be that there are a stress factors in your life causing an elevation in anxiety.

There isn't ONE WAY to get rid of these thoughts. It's important to evaluate how badly these thoughts are disrupting your life and then proceed with some kind of action.

If you can live with it right now, take stock of what is happening in your life. See if you are passing through a time with unusually high levels of stress. Maybe you can wait it out and see if things change.

If these thoughts are too disruptive, you may want to consider a therapist, so you can let them look for something that might be blind to you.

You can also see a Psych and describe what is happening. They may start you on low levels of meds that may do the trick.

But if you have had other OCD like symptoms besides ROCD, you will want to do something because you don't want it to get worse.

What is "ROCD"? I've never seen that before. Is it "Romance Obsessive Compulsive Disorder"?

I do have about two things that are causing stress in my life and I think that's where these intrusive thoughts are stemming from, so I shall wait it out.

And that's what I'm afraid of.. Of it getting worse and I don't have the money right now for therapy or medication so I'll be doing some research on natural remedies.

Thanks so much for responding.

I have been with my partner for around 5 months. A few weeks back I started to have some doubts out of the blue, about if she is right for me and do I love her. Since then I have become obsessed with the thought and its causing a great deal of anxiety. I have been unable to focus at work as I keep questioning how I feel all the time. Up until this point everything had been perfect in our relationship.

There has been alot of internal conflict in my mind which causes me to change my mind about the situation constantly. I don't have a history of any type of OCD but read some things about ROCD that seemed to apply to me. I certainly think the way these thoughts don't seem to stop is strange. I feel like I don't trust my own mind anymore and would like to establish if there is a problem?
