Is this OCD?

Postby Mollygirl » Thu May 25, 2006 4:34 pm

Hi All,

I have a friend who I think is suffering from OCD. Here's my story. My partner and I became friends with this couple through working with them about four years ago. We all hit it off immediately and began doing lots of things together, we would go to each others houses or meet for dinner or shopping, movies etc. we even spent ten days on vacation together, but then suddenly things kind of stopped - we started seeing them less frequently they called less, our meetings together were always fun and enjoyable but it was like things always had to be on their terms. She mentioned several times that when she goes to bed at night she has trouble turning off her mind and she also said she doesn't like to go away because she has bad thoughts about her family back home, like something bad is going to happen to them. She also drinks alot and is very controlling. She says she has friends but doesn't consider her female friends relationships and relatioinships require too much work. I'd like to help her but I'm just so afraid if I tell her I think she needs help and that she may have OCD I'll lose her completely. Does anyone have any insite??
or suggestions on how to proceed.

Hi Molly,
Nothing you have said about your friend leads me to believe that she has ocd. The only thing That sounds alittle like ocd was her fear of leaving home because she is afraid that something will happen to her family. But that also can be very normal. Is there something else going on? Does she feel like she needs to do things in order to stop something bad from happening? Has she revealed to you any other bothersome thoughts?

No she's never really said more about her thoughts, she says she has trouble sleeping because her mind is still racing. She's very intelligent and at work she has to have things at her desk just so, everything in its place. She's a real neatnik at work and at home, her house is always spotless and she goes crazy if she finds a hair in the bathroom.
I guess I think she is trying to distance herself from us so we don't see the real her.
