After some thoughts please?

Postby tikkie » Sun Dec 02, 2012 9:07 am

Hi there, I am new to this thread and site. I am pretty sure I have OCD, and I really need help with having everyday conversations with "normal" people ( mostly girls [ I am male ]). I am great talking to a girl 1 to 1, but when there are multiple, I shut down completely and don't have anything to say. I am afraid it might make me look weird and unapproachable. I also struggle a lot with introducing myself to a new girl in a pub etc, as I obsess about what the best first thing to say is, which leads to me not being able to make a conclusion of which one to take :P

Thanks in advance, I do hope this is appropriate to this forum, as I could not find another more suitable :)

Hi. It's good that you're comfortable talking 1-to-1. Maybe you can use that strengh when talking to a group? Could you focus on one girl to begin with, and just start talking to her as if she was alone?

Introducing yourself at a pub can be nerve-wracking. I think it's worth remembering that there is no 'best' thing to say. In my experience, impressive one-liners only belong in movies. I think saying "Hello" and following with a question is a good way to start a conversation. Asking a question gives the girl something specific to reply to (she may also be nervous and unsure what to say), and how she answers gives you a good clue about whether she's keen to talk to you further. (If she says more than the bare minimum in reply then that's a good sign!) As to what to ask, the first question that comes into your head will probably be fine. But if it's in the evening, you could always ask something like "How has your day been?"

Like most things, it gets easier with practice. So don't give-up if it doesn't seem easy at first.
