problems with brother

Postby green incense » Sat Aug 19, 2006 10:05 pm

I know that after the several threads i've made that everyone is sick of hearing my probelms. However I need some advice. My brother has had OCD all his life. He's 18 now and I guess I should be grateful that it's not near as bad as when he was little. But it's still pretty bad. I'll explain the situation that really worried me.
I was sitting with him in his room. We were going on the computer. I forget how it happened, but for some reason I turned the computer toward me when before it was facing him. Apparently (according to my brother that is) this is bad for the computer, but I doudt it would do any serious damage. When my brother saw what I had done he said, "You bitch! You broke the computer!" Then he elbowed me very hard in the chest. I ran out of the room crying all while he was shouting, "I'll break your legs!" I was really scared. I called my parents to talk to him. They calmed him down, but he hasn't even apologized. Even though the computer is fine. I knew that he really liked going the computer, but he's apparently odsessed with it. I'm pretty sure this is because of his OCD. I could be wrong I guess. Does anyone have advice?

I only have a very mild form of OCD, one of my kids and my husband have it much more severely. Many people with OCD have this feeling that they have to cave control over certain things. If they don't things in their world tend to fall apart. For instance my husband has a four year collection of all the paper bags our meds have come in. The pile is exactly so in his bookcase. The only trouble is that he has run out of room.

With me is things live I have to have certain things just so on my dresser and just about anywhere. If something isn't straight I run to straighten them.

Your post reminds me of some trouble we went through with our kids about eight years ago. One of my kids kept on trying to strange or smother his younger brouther. I caught him doing this ...my youngest gasping for air at the hands of his older brother. Unfortunately my oldest was hospitalized in an adolescent unit. It was one of the meds he was taking that made him so violent. After a med change we never had anymore trouble with this sort of thing. He still had OCD but he was not violent.

Maybe you and your parents can get your brother into some sort of therapy and/or he might be put on a med that can help him with the harmful symptoms he has.

You have every right to be concerned about him. Living with a violent brother is something to be taken seriously. In my opinion that is.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Thank you. My brother and your husband seem very similiar. He has serious control issues. When he was kid he would makes towers out of blocks and if they were messed up he would cry for hours. This didn't seem odd at the time but when he was 11 and tried to plug in wires he would push them in over and over again to make sure they were plugged in. He also dosen't apologize alot even when what he did is wrong. It's a shame because there are other times when he is so nice to be around. He's very two-faced.
