Entity in Nightmares

Postby BabyRed » Sat Aug 29, 2020 6:43 am

I want to preface my story with the thought that I’ve always felt like I have had some sort of dream/nightmare disorder due to the fact that I dreamt/had nightmares often and would easily remember my dreams (I can vividly remember dreams of mine from over 20 years ago). My brother and I would even have the same dream/nightmare on the same night sometimes and something about my dreams and nightmares has always made me feel uneasy. I have had issues falling asleep from the time I was really little... But the main reason I am posting today is to ask about entities in nightmares. I’m not sure if I have a nightmare disorder, or even if I know enough about nightmare disorders to begin to speculate... however I do know that for as long as I remember, I’ve had super scary, awful, hyper realistic nightmares.

For the past 10 years I have had a recurring entity appear in some of my nightmares (always in nightmares). It is completely invisible to the eye in my dreams but it speaks to me on occasion. It is definitely not a friendly entity since whenever I make “eye contact” with it my entire body floods with the chilling feeling of pure dread and fear. I freeze and it speaks to me in a deep voice in a language I do not understand. I call it “M” because the first “word” it always speaks to me starts with an “M” sound. Every nightmare is different though. The setting is different, the place I “see” M is different. But it is always invisible, and I freeze when I see it. I know it’s him immediately. And then I listen for sometimes a few seconds or sometimes what feels like an hour to whatever it has to say to me. One time I even experienced physical pain from a dream with M in it. I was pulled to the floor of my apartment (the one I was sleeping in) by what felt like the strongest arms ever and started gasping for air as my ribs felt like they were crushing. I woke up in a panic, not able to breathe, gasping for air as my fiancée looked at me in terror. It was an awful feeling. I sometimes have nightmares with M in them a few times a week, and other times not for half a year or more.

I had these dreams start when I was living at my dads house towards the end of college. I only had them at my dads house for a few years. Then after I moved they started happening at my new place and when I travelled even... what could be the cause of something like this? It’s truly terrifying in the moment and still chilling to even talk/think about. I’m typically not a high stress person, I do well financially, have a great woman, great relationships with family and friends. I’m kind of at a loss as to the cause of these nightmares. Any suggestions or information you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Wow very intriguing and interesting- although I'll wager you'd just as soon not be interesting.

I'm fortunate in that I don't often have nightmares. Even unpleasant dreams rarely turn terrifying, even if they contain unpleasant themes.

And recurring ones are rare.

Are you at all religious? This has a supernatural feel to it.

First think I thought of was some sort of demonic entity, to be honest. Not saying there's not a perfectly reasonable secular explanation for it. One time I was visited by what I can only describe as an incubus- invisible, irresistible, and while it started out pleasant, the end result was very unpleasant. Like your 'M', it was invisible but irresistible. It, however, did not speak. I woke from the dream weak, shaking, and terrified- feeling as if I'd had life-force sucked out of me.

The most I know about dream psychology is that generally if I'm worrying about it, I'm going to dream about it- something I try to get across in OCD forum when people there think dreams of their fear means they are whatever it is they're afraid of being- and I'm like naw man, you're worrying about it all the time, of course you're going to dream about it!

Beyond that I know little. For me, personally, I'd be inclined to the supernatural, but that's just me. I'd be looking to see if there were something particular about your dad's place where they started.

Back to the secular, can you remember any kind of stress you had at the time- any particular worries you had that might have triggered this, and could be just buried really deep? Anything, any subject, or professor, that might be associated with the letter M and the sound it makes?

Could it represent an emotion you’ve been repressing?

Way-out conjecture, but I wondered if any of your professors, BabyRed, were native speakers of a language foreign to your own. My mind wandered quite understandably to perhaps some pressure in college, and the matter of the entity speaking in another language made me wonder if a professor or some other person who didn't share your mother-tongue, had caused some pressure to perform (academically or otherwise) or otherwise some deep-seated anxiety. And something to do with the letter M. Perhaps the first letter of a name, or language/nationality. or even the word that comes close to describing what caused the dreams in the first place. I feel as if the speaking in an unknown language, and the 'M', mean something.

I know I prattled on about the paranormal in my first comment- in my case tho, let's see- my incubus was perhaps my subconscious, wrestling with my latent bisexuality (I'm male, so this was the (supposedly rare) homosexual variety of the critter and yes I researched to see if Incubi ever get the hots for the same sex), something I feel very conflicted over at times... and then woke up feeling as if my sexual desires drained happiness with life from me, since I feel both the straight and gay sides to my sexuality often being mutually incompatible.

Add to the fact I am a very anxious person, and was under a lot of work stress and was always fatigued to the point of being exhausted and shaky, often. And so after a mere couple hours of fitful sleep, ending in a rare nightmare, I naturally felt like Death warmed over.

So... something had to be bothering you, and still haunts you, if this thing keeps pestering you, yes? In my case, I've since come to more of a peace with myself, over the possible causes of my own similar dream.

I wonder if something inside feels as if were forced into something- your life choices perhaps? The being held down bit. Everything in this dream, feels as if it ought to be significant.

Thank you to everyone who responded.

My first thought was a demonic entity as well, but i had no idea. I do have recurring dreams and themes in my dreams, and have my whole life. Thanks for your response.

I don't think its a repressed feeling or emotion, but it very well could be. I guess it wouldn't be repressed if I knew what it was and talked about it. Thank you for your input

I had a few professors native in other languages. I actually dated a girl named Mary (from Venezuela and spoke Spanish) but it was a few years before M started appearing in my nightmares and it wasn't an awful relationship or break up. Nor was it a relationship either one of us really were that broken up about ending. I doubt it would be about that, but an interesting thought since it did apply in a relevant way. I appreciate your insight.

M hasn't been around for a few months, but I will definitely update if it appears again.

Well hopefully there won't be any updates- but if there is I'd like to know about it, too.

I knew someone who had a ghost for a while I think they would see in dreams and it would follow them from place to place, but then it kinda faded away. Wasn't malicious though- more of the innocuous incubus that was sexually attracted/attached to them, but not intent upon causing any apparent harm. The kind that some people remember fondly. It never makes itself manifest, anymore. I suppose it just went away.

Was your father haunted? While he lived in that house?
