I hate sleeping at this point (help)

Postby aboywhoisalive » Sun Oct 27, 2019 9:14 am

there is never a day that i don't have a nightmare and its getting to the point i don't want to sleep and im in high school and its tiring as it is but im getting 0-4 hours of me closing my eyes. i have really bad nightmares almost every night either involving me or my family or people i really care about like tonight i had a nightmare that stuck with me.
*TW*

i was coming home from school and my birth mom had come and gotten me because it was my sisters birthday. on our way home we stopped by a flower shop and got my sister blue irises. when we finally got home there were strange vans at our hose they were white with blackout windows. i had asked mom what was going on and she had no idea. i stepped out o out car and tripped on a soccer ball that was bloody when i looked over my whole family were on the ground dead.they were all shot outside in *mod edit* my other mom my sisters and brother along with my dogs. when i looked over to my mom she had a gunshot wound *mod edit* she didn't even seem to notice it.she walked over to one of the ladies that was there and the lady didn't see what i was seeing. at this point i was hyperventilating in the dream and i feel like the only reason i woke up was because i was lightheaded i had been hyperventilating while i was asleep

I need help Im so tired of not sleeping

Hi

Dreams and nightmares are the way the subconscious tries to process your experiences/emotions/thoughts that you have been through while you've been awake. They don't always make sense though. And it's not possible to make them just go away by wishing they would. Working through your thoughts and fears and trying to process as much of your emotions, experiences and thoughts as possible may help you to eventually move on in your sleep to have more settling times.

How are things in the rest of your life lately? Do you have someone you can talk to? Are you particularly worried about anything? Do any of the themes of the dream connect with anything you are currently struggling with (such as maybe fear of losing your family or of experiencing a different reality to other people's etc)?
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.

There were times in my early recovery and undergoing major life changes that I would have incredibly intense dreams (intense, not necessarily bad dreams). I would wake up the next morning without an ending to the dream. It would leave me shaken and stunned for most of the morning as I tried to recollect my thoughts.
My therapist would say, 'They are only dreams', but they had the power to leave me in shock the next morning. She also suggested to 'Write a happy ending to an incomplete dream and go on with the day'. Once I got distracted in an activity, my mind could move on and the previous night's dream lost its power over me.
It did eventually get better. Bad dreams are just an indication that your mind needs to process and defragment what it experiences during your waking hours. When your body is at rest and enters sleep, it can perform this. We all do it. Lack of sleep or lack of dreams can damage us.
Best of luck to you. :D

lately my life has been really stressful it always has been since I was little.Recently I haven't gotten a lot of sleep for the past week and when I do I have really intense dreams and I end up waking up and not being able to go back to bed. I am talking to a therapist but we just started last week so I haven't gotten to really talk to her about it. And yeah I have been worried about our finances in my family one of my family members cant work rn and may not to be able to work at all soon. I had a dream tonight and me and my partner who I haven't told my parents about yet. but me and her were in an apartment i was in collage she was working and it seemed like anything I've ever wanted. then everything went black and we were both in the hospital with the same thing and they only had one thing of medication that could save our lives and she had gotten it first and then I felt like I was suffocating I couldn't breathe it felt like a car was on top of me when I woke up I couldn't breathe at all for what felt like forever I've also had dreams that I've woken up hyperventilating. me not sleeping well is affecting my grades and my attitude and its becoming a problem i blew up on my girlfriend today and she hasn't talked to me since.I also haven't been the nicest to my family lately either.

how do I try and deal with these situations and get through the day?

It sounds like anxiety playing itself out in your dreams.

I used to get sleep paralysis every single night of my life and it terrified me so much. I thought it was real because I didn't know what sleep paralysis was back then. I'd stay awake for days on end and I was like a zombie. It took years but one day I decided to fight it and I got myself into a regular sleep pattern.

The nightmares still came night after night but then they started to be every other night. Then once a week and further and further apart. These days it happens about twice or thrice a year. It still terrifies me when it happens but I know that it is just a dream.
