I logged on to see what people are writing about and see if I had many replies to my post in April. There has been one post in the last 5 months. I can't believe it. This used to be a really popular board, there are 65 pages, over 2500 topics going back 18 years.

Any ideas why no one ever posts any more? Surely BDD still is a very real thing for so many ...

Is your BDD basically just a fear of being ugly? i.e. you worry and are self conscious of perceived flaws that you believe are ugly or people will judge you as ugly for? Are you self conscious and hate being seen because you fear people thinking you are ugly?
If so doesn’t BDD actually not target the real fear but is stuck focusing on one of the bi products of the fear?

I would love to find some help about how to overcome being self conscious of my looks. I thought I finally found what my problem is when I read about BDD but I then I read that BDD is about imagined ugliness and imagined flaws. Does anyone know what it is called if you are self conscious of your looks and a real flaw such as a big nose?

Here is some useful info, I think. There seems to be a significant link between BDD and childhood trauma. There is a recent scientific article on this, “Childhood maltreatment and trauma is common and severe in body dysmorphic disorder” . And there are similar studies.

I don't know if this forum is active anymore but people with BDD certainly need to address this topic. Not least because there has been some significant progress ...
