New phobia forum

Hi, my name is John Brace and i would just like to say I have had the Admins permission(Sean) to tell you about my new forum all about fears and phobias. I am currently working on the web-site but there is a basic site up and running at www.ofear.com.

I would love for the forum to become a meeting place for people to discuss their fears and phobias in ...

Life sucks

Hi, i have schizophrenia but that's taken care of because my medications are doing great on me. Even my psychiatrist says that i respond very well to medications. However, at the moment i am suffering from a very bad case of social phobia.

I am even socially phobic towards my parents, for God's sakes. I am just always trying to avoid being with my parents.

What can i do?

Thanks in advance.

Human-to-nature relationship is psychology

The one discipline that, sad to say, has hitherto remained virtually untouched by any concern for the environment or the human-to-nature relationship is psychology. You will search in vain in the texts and journals of any of the major schools of psychology—clinical, behaviorist, cognitive, physiological, humanistic or transpersonal—for any theory or research concerning the most basic fact of human existence: the fact of our relationship to the natural world of which we are a part. ...

What I've Gained From Social Phobia

(Okay, this may be a controversial thread, but it's very important for me to discuss these things. I can't speak for anyone else, but I feel like Social Phobia has taught me some valuable lessons in addition to the things it's taken from me. If anyone else feels similarly, please join in. If you feel like your condition has taken but given nothing back, feel free to say that, too.)

Social Phobia has taught me.... ...

Introduction: Atypical Sociophobe

Where to start? I don't know exactly how much I have in common with other sociophobes. It was tricky to diagnose me at first, but I'm confident we found the correct category.

I guess the first place to start is with the biggest difference: I am very comfortable as a public speaker. My therapists and I finally figured out that this was actually a control mechanism I developed out of my talent for public speaking. ...

the critical fator in the recovery of Social Phobia 2

For some long-time social phobia suffers, only understanding that “all could never be eliminated” is not enough. Just like if we don’t go into the water, we will never learn how to swim even if we can understand and recite all the instruction materials on swimming.
First, we should not try to avoid any social situation like we used to do, we should force ourselves to rush into it, like a normal man, however nervous ...

the critical factor in the recovery of Social Phobia

All could never be eliminated.
Social phobia has the following symptoms: nervous , glance, shyness, blush face, bad expression, panic of space, stutter etc, compulsion, anxiety, insomnia, doubt, eating difficulty , all these symptoms……could not be eliminated, when you start to understand these and learn to adapt yourself to them, live with them, accept them from the bottom of your heart, and never try to repel them, it will fade away gradually. Now let me ...

Hair, DIY or go somewhere?

Hey, bit of an odd question maybe. How many of you out there go to a hair stylist/barber for haircuts? I have a mood and anxiety disorder with a big capital A, and I really don't "go places" very much other than a few stores, a chinese take out place, psychiatrist's office and a car mechanic. Getting my haircut at a place isn't something I'm comfortable with, haven't actually had an 'official' haircut for ten ...
