Does this sound like social phobia to you?

I have not seen Tom, the common law husband of my friend, in about 5 years, even though they live a few blocks away in my small town.

Andrea and Tom met several (perhaps 9-10) years ago when they were in college. After college, Andrea had a full time job at a reasonably well known company in the same city and Tom worked in that city too. A couple of years later, Tom got ...

exposure strategies

Ok so here is my experience with SA. Been attending therapy for 4ish years after having persistent self harm thoughts made me realise something was seriously wrong. My SA is relatively moderate it seems, as I have a wide circle of friends and a relatively active social life. Nonetheless it seriously impacts my quality of life and has been pretty resistant to treatment. The biggest hurdle for me is meeting new people and approaching women. ...

Hyper sensitive to other's body movements

This happens to me occasionally: I will be in a group setting, and I will fixate on someone, often an attractive co-ed, and then when they move, to brush there hair from there face, or shift in their seat, etc, I notice it, and I feel compelled to move slightly as well, and I will involuntarily fidget, like a tic I guess. It is mild enough so people probably usually don't notice it, but it ...

Fear of others while asleep

Hello,

This is quite an odd form of social phobia I know, but bear with me as I attempt to justify this as a worthy fear.

I have lived on my own since the age of 17 and am nearing 21 at the moment. The apartment I live at now is the 6th location that I have moved to within this time frame. throughout this experience of living alone, I have taught myself to be ...

What is wrong with me?

Idek where to start. Due to my #######5 old school I developed this deep hatred for people. It's not like I hate every single person that I meet, it's just extremely hard to meet someone that I like. even my friends annoy me. The only person who doesn't annoy me is my boyfriend. Despite this, I still have this annoying need for people to like me, it's extremely easy to make me blush and I ...

Can't text people, too nervous

I didn't know what to put this under. I think my inability to text people is due to my social anxiety so I thought I'd put this here.

I'm desperately trying to make friends and I'm actually somewhat doing it. I see them at lunch everyday and talk to them, but never text them or see them outside of school. I want to text them to get closer to them but I don't know how. ...

Benzodiazepines for specific social situations?

I have social phobia and I have found benzodiazepines to be helpful in specific challenging social situations. Like a family meeting, a promising date, presenting a workshop (the hardest of all) etc.

Alprazolam (Xanax) and Lorazepam (Ativan) are the most effective for me. I have, sometimes, used much larger doses than prescribed and it resulted in embarassing situations due to excessive dishinibition, but I don't do it anymore. I'm very careful with the doses now. ...

The thoughts of a dreamer...

Do you ever believe yourself to be more happier in the dream world than you are in reality? The people you meet there don’t seem to abide by any conventional standards of what is considered “normal” or “correct”. They are a reflection of everything you’d truly like to find in a person. They are the exception to every carbon copy of what is socially accepted as ordinary or popular, and as unique as you could ...

I like this girl at work but, I have severe SA!

Hey everyone, my name is Mark and I am 36 years old. I have suffered with severe, and I mean severe, social anxiety all my life. Like many other sufferers I only really started to realize this during my school years. Instead of getting progressively better however, I got progressively worse and has effectively led to a pointless, non-existent, and invisible life. I won't go into too much detail in this post about how it ...
